Appearance(s)

You see, I don't want to always be the crybaby Florina who needs you to protect her... I want to be more like my sister, a fine pegasus knight.
— Florina, in a support conversation with Fiora.

Florina (Japanese: フロリーナ Flolina) is a pegasus Knight from Ilia who appears in Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade. She is generally quite shy, but goodhearted and friendly.

Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade

Role

Lyn's tale

Florina first appears in Chapter 3, being accosted by bandits who tell her to apologize. They are planning to take her and sell her, along with her rare pegasus, when Lyn arrives. She and Florina seem to recognize each other. Florina said that she had flown there to find Lyn when she landed on the bandits, and although she had apologized many times, they still refuse to let her go. The bandits gather and prepare to fight with Lyn, and Florina helps out in the battle.

After the bandits are defeated, Florina explains that she came to find Lyn, to talk to her before going on a training journey. Sain suggests that she join their group for training, and Lyn agrees; happy to be with Lyn, Florina accepts.

She continues with Lyn even after they reach Castle Caelin and defeat Lord Lundgren, and decides to stay with Lyn.

Eliwood/Hector's tale

Florina appears in Noble Lady of Caelin, Chapter 15 of Eliwood's tale and Chapter 16 of Hector's tale. At the start of the chapter, she is with Lyn, Sain, Kent, and Wil, trapped outside Castle Caelin. They are discussing how they can reach Eliwood help when Florina volunteers. She flies over when she spots Eliwood, who she calls out to; however, she and her pegasus fall to the ground, landing on Hector. Although embarrassed, Florina tells Eliwood where Lyn and the others are, and she fights with Eliwood's group of soldiers. The two groups are able to unite and reach the castle.

After they successfully secure the safety of Marquess Hausen, Florina joins Eliwood and Hector's army and fights with them for the rest of the game.

In The Dread Isle, Chapter 18 for Eliwood and Chapter 19 for Hector, Florina sees her sister Fiora on the island. Fiora says she had been sent to investigate the island with a whole squadron; she was left the only survivor after a large attack and blames herself. Florina tells her not to and starts to cry, which helps Fiora to recover from her sadness. Florina suggests that she join her army, and Fiora accepts. The two sisters, together, stay with the group.

Analysis

This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience.

Florina joins as your stereotypical first flier, trading decent resistance, high speed and excellent movement for low physical durability, mediocre offense and a weakness to Archers. In addition to these problems, her low constitution causes her trouble as well, since equipping an Iron Lance or Javelin will slow her down significantly, meaning Florina will struggle to double certain enemies with stronger weapons for a considerable amount of time. Thus, her combat at base will probably be sub-par compared to many other units in your army, despite her early access to lances and 1-2 range weapons.

Her troublesome offense will most likely be fixed by her decent offensive growths after a couple of level-ups. Lyn's Story Mode is perfect for this purpose, since it offers Florina a lot of weak Soldiers and Mercenaries to defeat. Increasing her lance rank also helps, since she has good chances of one-rounding most enemies she can double with a Silver Lance or Killer Lance.

Nonetheless, Florina's bad durability will still impair her combat performance until she promotes into a Falcon Knight, most likely using your first Elysian Whip around the Dread Isle (especially if Lyn's Story was played). The promotion offers her a huge boost to HP, a small movement increase, and a well-welcomed bonus to strength, defense, and resistance. Together with her already good evasion and the fact that bows deal less effective damage than usual, this finally allows her to take on multiple enemies at once without facing a huge risk of dying. Promotion also gives her access to swords, and while an E-rank in swords is arguably not a great addition to the arsenal of most units, Iron Swords can be useful for Florina, since they don't weigh her down and deal sufficient damage to kill most magic/staff wielding enemies who are likely to be your Falcon Knights main targets during the late-game (in addition to finally giving her a weapon triangle advantage versus axe users).

However, a much more important point than Florina's combat capabilities is her being in a class with flying movement. Combined with her high Aid and good availability, she gains great additional utility as ferry unit or by reaching remote treasure chests and villages. Later in the game, flying movement becomes even more important, since you'll face more and more impassable terrain as well as more enemies with long range staves/weapons. While your ground units might have trouble to reach those enemies before they can bother you, fliers like Florina with decent resistance and high avoid as well as the ability to fly over mountains, buildings and water are an excellent choice for taking them down as quickly as possible. Flying movement also helps her fighting against other fliers like enemy Wyvern Riders, who will appear after the Dread Isle and might pose a threat to your less mobile units. While most units will be able to reliably one-round after a certain point, Florina's ability to fly is a valuable niche and is a great reason to train her up.

As in earlier installments of the series, Florina can perform the Triangle Attack in Hector's Story Mode together with her sisters Fiora and Farina. There might be bosses where you'll find some good use for a 100% hit/crit attack, but most of the time you won't face enemies that are worth the effort of placing all three pegasi around them.

All in all, Florina is a very decent unit with great availability as well as almost unmatched movement and rescue-abilities. She might lack combat capabilities at first, but is capable of growing into a formidable fighting unit within a rather short time thanks to lance access, Lyn's Story Mode and her promotion.

Fire Emblem Awakening

Florina is playable as a SpotPass character, released in the Fire Emblem character set. She is also present as an enemy in the second and third installments of the Smash Brethren DLC series.

Fire Emblem Heroes

Main article: Florina/Heroes

There are two different variations of Florina available in Heroes. In addition, Lyn: Ninja-Friend Duo features her as a Duo Hero alongside Lyn, and Hilda: Skyward Wings features her as a Harmonized Hero alongside Hilda.

Personality

Florina is a shy girl, often stuttering, while also being kind and considerate. She has quite a bit of determination, along with a desire to become more independent from others. In several of her support conversations, she starts to grow up, or is seen as already starting to do so. For example, she confidently volunteers to find Eliwood, saying she is no longer the "weak little Florina she used to be."[3] She has a great fear of men, which diminishes in the year she stays in Caelin,[3] but she still speaks with much more confidence and calmness with females. Still, she tends to be intimidated by those with more dominant personalities, such as Hector.[4] According to Farina, at parties she does rather outrageous things, such as singing the "Pegasus Counting Song" up to one hundred sitting on top of a table full of food; Florina is very embarrassed at these outbursts.[5] Still, most of the time she remains quiet and reserved.

Florina has two sisters, also pegasus knights: the oldest, serious Fiora, and the second oldest, money-loving Farina. Florina became a pegasus knight out of admiration for Fiora[6], and the two share an understanding, supportive relationship. Farina, on the other hand, often teases Florina, although she does care for her. She tells the above tales of Florina at festivals, but only to check if the "old Florina" is still there, surprised to see that Florina has grown up so much.[7] Florina and Lyn are very good friends; they met on the Sacae plains when Florina fell off her pegasus and was hanging down from a tree branch, crying and afraid of the flying bees.[8] Since then the two have remained very good friends.

Fire Emblem Character File 068: Florina
Image Gender: Female Estimated Age: Teen Title: Lovely Flier Origin: Ilia
Status: Ilia Pegasus Knights Member (Apprentice) Weapon: Lance, Sword

The timid and somewhat clumsy pegasus knight.

An apprentice pegasus knight of Ilia. She is the youngest of the three pegasus sisters. Her older sisters are Fiora and Farina. She has been friends with Lyn from when Lyn lived among other Sacaens. She set out to find Lyn, following her as she was on her journey. She trains while she is also part of Lyn's crew, but finds it difficult to talk to men regardless of if they are friend or foe.

Florina, though shy, can speak to her sisters and close friend Lyn naturally. One can hear funny episodes regarding Florina in conversations with Farina and Lyn. She also has a very interesting conversation with Ninian. She loves animals like her pegasus; just one aspect of Florina's kindness that can be seen. One unique support conversation occurs with Hector. She is able to open up her heart to him because she feels that kind words are behind his rough exterior.
