Appearance(s)

Thea, you're such a worrier! Flying is more enjoyable without all the extra gear on. See ya!
— Shanna, to Thea in a support conversation.

Shanna (Japanese: シャニー Thany) is a Ilian trainee Pegasus Knight and mercenary, and the younger sister of fellow Pegasus Knights Juno and Thea. She serves with Dieck's mercenary squad as part of her training, having worked in the field for a year prior to the onset of the Disturbance of Bern,[4] and was hired into the service of Roy of Pherae during the Disturbance.

Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade

Role

When Bern's army first threatened to press on into Lycia, Pherae's Lord Eliwood hired Dieck's band as reinforcements for the Pheraen army led by his son, Roy. Designated to meet at the frontier between Lycia and Bern, the band arrived to find a skirmish already underway, and Shanna was tasked to find Roy, then return to Dieck and report on his status. After rescuing Elen's mistress Guinivere, they integrated into Roy's army and served with him for the rest of the war as part of the joint Lycia–Etruria army.

Later, during the Western Isles campaign, Shanna encountered one of her older sisters, Thea, in the battlefield in the employ of an Etrurian unit serving Arcardo; however, she could only convince Thea to not attack Roy until he consulted with Thea's employer. With Klein's defection to Roy, Shanna successfully convinced Thea to join the Lycian army as well.

Analysis

This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience.

Shanna joins you in Chapter 2 as a Pegasus Knight with a high Aid stat and 7 movement. This is already very useful as she can help get other units to the frontlines or evacuate a unit with low HP away from the frontlines. Shanna also has little trouble if she finds the need to retreat since she ignores terrain. Of course, Shanna suffers from the standard weakness to bows and the Aircalibur magic tomes shared by all fliers, unless she is equipped with a Delphi Shield, an item that can be obtained by stealing it from Narcian in Chapter 16.

Shanna has high Skill, Luck, and Speed, but has low HP, Strength, Defense, and Constitution. She will double attack a lot due to her high base Speed and growth, a rarity on Hard mode, which compensates for her low Strength. Her biggest weakness is her questionable physical durability. While her base defense is pretty respectable, her base HP is poor (only 1 more than Elen and 1 less than Roy) and her growths in these areas are also poor. Shanna primarily relies on her high Speed and Luck to dodge enemies. Fortunately, fliers have much less competition for promotion items than other units, as fewer units promote with an Elysian Whip than with other promotion items, and there are three available by the end of Chapter 12, with the first one available in Chapter 8.

Compared to other flying units, Thea joins 8 or 9 chapters later with higher base Strength and Defense but lower Speed. Melady is a 7 movement killing machine whose only disadvantages over the other fliers is her later join time and lower aid. The other Wyvern Rider is Zeiss, who joins late but has a great class and very high strength. Lastly, Juno has mediocre stats and growths compared to the other fliers and only really serves as filler. It is worth noting that Shanna, Thea, and Juno can execute the Triangle Attack.

One factor to note is that the player will access different versions of Chapters 17-20 depending on Shanna's stats. If she and Thea have more experience than Sue and Sin, the player will go to Ilia, while if Sue and Sin have more experience, the player will go to Sacae.

When compared to the entire Binding Blade roster, Shanna holds a high place above most because of her great class, join time, and solid combat.

Personality

Image
Shanna and her sisters

Shanna is a cheerful girl. She can be rash in the battlefield, which is criticized by her fellow mercenaries. She does not take it very well; depending on the person, she protests in reply,[5] or even makes jokes to change the topic.[6] She can be quite cheeky towards her comrades.[7] She is prone to assume things, though,[8] a bad habit she is aware of.[9] Her cheerful disposition seems to be dampened only when confronting a comrade.[10]

Shanna loves her family dearly, and is overjoyed at the news of having a niece.[11] As the youngest sister, she is used to being doted on by her sisters, and likes laughing at the more reserved Thea's attempts of showing affection.[12]

Endings

Shanna, Cheerful Knight
Short: Returned home and was knighted.

Long: After the war, Shanna was knighted and became a full-fledged Pegasus Knight. Throughout her career, she served as lieutenant and squad leader, and she eventually rose to the position of Flightleader of Ilia. Her cheerful personality earned her much admiration and respect from her colleagues.

Roy and Shanna
Shanna gave up her life as a pegasus knight and went to Pherae with Roy, where they wed. Rebuilding Lycia was never easy, but her energy always encouraged everyone around her.

Fire Emblem Characters: The Binding Blade & The Blazing Blade

Shanna's artwork from The Binding Blade is featured in a file in the Fire Emblem Characters book, alongside details regarding herself and her role in the game's story. She is the 9th character listed in this book. Shanna scored 6th place in the online The Binding Blade popularity poll whose results were included in the book.

Fire Emblem Character File 009: Shanna
Image Gender: Female Estimated Age: Teens Title: Cheerful Pegasus Knight Origin: Ilia
Status: Ilian Pegasus Knight Apprentice Weapon: Lance, Sword

Her aim is to soar with vigor as a full-fledged pegasus knight.

She is an apprentice pegasus knight of Ilia. While following the knights' code, which states that "one cannot truly learn without learning from foreign mercenary groups," she joined Dieck's mercenaries. Though she does not know proper etiquette, her personality is cheery and positive. After the war, her deeds were fully recognized and she became an official pegasus knight.

The youngest of three sisters and with a cheerful free spirit, Shanna is the type to talk to anybody without hesitation. She is aware that in order to become a pegasus knight, she will have to face countless harsh battles, and experience being a friend or foe to her own sisters. Despite that, with her personality, she is still welcomed as a member by Dieck, whom she cares deeply for.

    Shanna: What!? Scurrying around!?
Ward: It's annoying when some weakling who gets shot down so easily by a puny archer is flying around all over the place!
Shanna: Oh, yeah!? Well, it's a pain for me to have some slow axefighter with no brains fighting near me as well! Haven't you ever heard of the concept of dodging?" — Shanna and Ward's C support, Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade
  6. "Shanna: Shoot, just 'compared to before,' huh... Oh yeah, I had something to tell you, too.
    Lot: Something to tell me?
Shanna: Yeah. The things that you should be careful of in battle! Do you want to hear them?
    Lot: Well, yeah.
Shanna: Then give me your ear for a sec.
    Lot: Okay... Like this?
Shanna: ...Don't stress yourself too much, big brother.

Shanna: Why? Back in Ilia, we always call our leader the captain.
    Dieck: It doesn't suit me.
Shanna: All right, um... Okay, then I'll call you Bro, like Lot and Ward do.

    Shanna: ......
Thea: Shanna, I'm sorry... I can't be kind like Juno, can I...
Shanna: Thea... ...Did you hit your head or something?
Thea: ...... This child... All right, I don't care anymore. You can fend for yourself from now on!
