Prince Leif, if you weren't lying about wanting my forgiveness, you must lend me your strength! I must reclaim Ulster... I must undo my father's regrets, and give meaning to his meaningless death!
— Miranda

Miranda (Japanese: ミランダ Miranda) is a playable Mage in Fire Emblem: Thracia 776.

Biography

In Grann 762, Miranda's family, the royal family of Ulster, began to harbor Prince Leif of Leonster, as well as Finn, Nanna, and Lachesis.[3] Three years later, when the Grannvale Empire invaded Ulster on the pretext that they were harboring Prince Leif, Miranda was turned over to the invading forces as a hostage, and her father was killed.[3]

She spent the next several years imprisoned in Ulster castle, although Count Conomor of Ulster was able to watch over her.[4] In Grann 776, due to rebellions in Leonster and Tarrah, as well as rumors of rebellion in Ulster itself, she was moved to the Loptyrian temple in Millefeuille Forest.[4]

Later that year, she was freed by Leif and joined with his liberation army as they passed through the forest. After the retaking of Leonster, she urged Leif to move south to where a rebellion was brewing in her home of Ulster.[5] When the rebellion failed, she reunited with Conomor on the battlefield, ordering him and his unit to join with Leif's army.[6]

Her part in the later war, if any, is unknown, as she does not appear in Genealogy of the Holy War.

Analysis

This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience.

Miranda joins rather late in the game at level 5 and unpromoted. Her unimpressive base stats make it difficult to train her, and even when trained, she is redundant as a magic user because the game is full of powerful magic users like Asbel, Homer, Linoan and Sara. Sara in particular overshadows her, joining in the same chapter as her with better offensive bases and healing utility, and five Action stars. Miranda has slightly better physical durability than Sara, but both are very frail, and while her FCM is 1 instead of 0, it is still too low to be reliable. Her low HP and defense prevent her from taking on more than a few non-magical enemies on the enemy phase, especially at base level where she risks dying in one hit. In her starting chapter alone, every physical enemy (except the Dancer) can one-shot her, and even the Dark Mages are dealing too much damage to take more than a hit.

Her promotion to Mage Knight, while giving her decent bonuses and more mobility outdoors, also causes her to take stat penalties indoors, especially in movement, where she loses 1 movement after promotion indoors. This reduces her utility during the last few maps of the game, all of which take place indoors. Also, while this promotion gives Miranda access to swords, she should not use them due to her low strength and constitution, and only having an E rank upon promotion.

For advantages, Miranda does sport high magic and speed growths, a good skill growth, and Wrath—while this allows her to deal massive damage when counterattacking, it is limited by her poor durability. She can also use Meteor after promotion due to her relatively high fire level. Finally, she gives Conomor a 20% support bonus, increasing his hit and critical hit rates. However, the player should be careful not to expose her to any enemies when deploying her for this purpose.

Overall, Miranda is very fragile at base level, and has no niche that she fulfills when she is trained up.
