Lara (Japanese: ラーラ Lara) is a playable thief in Fire Emblem: Thracia 776.

Bioraphy

Lara was a slave of a group of traveling entertainers, who treated her badly, and forced her to dance. One day, she was set free by Perne, and decided to quit dancing and become a thief.[1] Lara arrived in Munster and joined the Magi. One day, on Ced's order, Lara, alongside Brighton and Machyua, liberated Prince Leif of Leonster from the dungeon and followed him outside the city. During their travel, Lara met back with Perne. Upon talking to him, she decided to resume dancing in order to help the liberation army.[2]

Analysis

This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience.

Lara joins in Chapter 4 as a Thief, but can change her class to a Dancer by talking to Perne in Chapter 12x. This makes Lara the only unit in the franchise who has both thief utility and dancer utility.

In the Munster arc, having a unit who can open locks and chests is invaluable. While Lara's stats outside of speed and luck are dreadful and she will never be able to fight, she does not need to. She's a utility unit above all, and her main purpose as a thief is to use Lockpicks. Besides that, she can steal items, such as vulneraries, which are valuable in the Munster arc so that everyone will survive, as the army won't have healers until Chapter 5, when Nanna joins. However, she only has a constitution of 3, so she is weighed down by everything except the Slim Sword at base and the only weapons she can steal are Slim Swords and Wind tomes.

Aside from opening locks and chests, Lara can also serve as capture bait. Especially in the Munster arc, Lara will be a prime target for enemy units to capture. Her low constitution helps her here, as even Mages will always have the constitution to capture her. Having a unit which the player can bait enemies with is very valuable with how strong the enemies are and how significant the capturing penalties are. However, this strategy is risky, as Lara will lose everything not removed from her inventory, which can only be regained by capturing the enemy that captured her.

In Chapter 12x, Lara can become a dancer. Lara is the only unit in Thracia with access to the dancer class, in arguably its best incarnation. Dancers can refresh another unit's action once per turn, enabling many strategies. Lara can allow staff users to use staves twice per turn, combat units to kill two enemies on player phase, and more. While she loses speed upon promotion, making her stealing utility and combat worse, she is already poor at both of these. She can be purposely unequipped so if an enemy gets too close she will be captured instead of killed, alleviating her durability issues.

Lara also has an action star, granting her a 5% chance to move again upon completing an action. This is unreliable, but can sometimes allow her to use a Lockpick twice in a single turn. After she becomes a dancer, she may sometimes dance twice in a single turn, too.
