— Alcryst

Alcryst (Japanese: スタルーク Staluke) is a playable character in Fire Emblem Engage. He is the second son of King Morion and younger brother of Diamant.

Biography

Alcryst is the second prince of Brodia,[1] son of King Morion, and younger brother of Prince Diamant. Lapis and his cousin Citrinne act as his retainers.

After news of the Divine Dragon Alear's awakening and journey to Brodia, King Morion sent Alcryst and his retainers to meet them at the border, which had recently been under attack from Elusia. Unknowing of the situation, Alcryst fires shots at the party. After being corrected, he apologizes profusely and joins the Divine Dragon.

Fire Emblem Engage

Role

Alcryst is a playable character who first becomes playable in Chapter 7. He appears in various scenes up until Chapter 10, and, as a result of this, will retreat and become unavailable to be deployed should he be defeated in Classic Mode before Chapter 11. An alternate version of him appears as a boss in the Fell Xenologue.

Analysis

This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience.

Alcryst is the second bow user to join the party, and can promote as soon as the chapter is over. His dexterity is excellent, giving him high hit and critical rates. He also has solid speed, though he will need assistance to reliably double most enemies. However, his strength is quite low and remains so throughout the game; Tireur d'élite's Luna patches it up to a degree, but at best it lets him unreliably kill enemies. Furthermore, Alcryst's strength is low enough that even with a Luna proc, he might not be able to one-round, making him even more unreliable at one-rounding. Reclassing him to a Warrior would help his strength, but his personal strength is poor (2 less than Lapis and 5 less than Amber) so he will still have problems with his low strength. His damage issue can be somewhat alleviated by forging a strong Silver Bow or Lendabair for punching power, a Brave Bow to try and fish for extra Luna activations, or a Killer Bow to try and get crits, but none of them remove his dependency on being lucky to ORKO enemies.

Alcryst's personal skill, Get Behind Me!, gives Alcryst +3 strength if a foe initiates combat against an ally within a 2-tile radius of Alcryst. This is a very powerful skill that boosts Alcryst's damage on enemy phase and can be set up in order to make Alcryst more of a threat on enemy phase. The boost lasts into the next player phase, letting you benefit from the skill on your own turn as well.

As Alcryst's personal class is somewhat lacking outside of giving him Luna, he can reclass into the Warrior class as it still lets him make use of bows, while simultaneously giving him access to axes, which significantly improve his damage output against non-flying enemies. Merciless also fits together excellently with Alcryst, giving him significantly more damage.

On the topic of Emblem Rings, Alcryst makes good use of the Ring of the Lady of the Plains due to potential high damage without needing to get close to the enemy by stacking Astra Storm and Luna. Alcryst also benefits from Speedtaker, as it significantly improves his speed, letting him reach doubling tresholds, but said skill and ring are in high demand.

Endings

Tender Archer Alcryst
Alcryst took on all clerical duties at Brodia Castle and provided aid to Elusia's recovery effort. The two nations grew to trust each other, expanding mutual trade.
He was praised as a brilliant yet humble strategist who kept his brother, the new king, safe—just as he'd promised his late father.

Divine Dragon Alear & Tender Archer Alcryst
Alear became the new Divine Dragon Monarch. His/Her bonds with the rulers of each nation resulted in lasting peace.
Alcryst restored Lythos to its former glory and grew to be an unrecognizably composed and powerful force in government. His apologies remained extreme.
