Mila (pronounced /⁠ˈmɪlə⁠/^[key]; Japanese: ミラ Mila) is one of the two gods of the continent of Valentia, known by the people as the Earth Mother (Japanese: 大地母神 earth mother goddess). She is the worshipped deity of the kingdom of Zofia, and is still worshipped alongside Naga millennia later in Valm. In ancient times, Valentia was split into two nations in a pact between the two conflicting gods, and Mila's pacifistic beliefs shaped the nation of Zofia into a peaceful and prosperous nation. However, her influence led to Zofia becoming corrupt and hedonistic, never needing to toil for its prosperity.

Biography

Life Before Valentia

Mila originally came from the continent of Archanea, where she resided with her brother Duma after conflicts with the degenerated Earth Dragons. During this time, they aided humanity according to the Valentian Revelations, and with this aid the humans constructed the great city of Thabes. When Duma destroyed it in fear of the humans' power, Naga became enraged and she and Duma went to war with one another, with Mila coming to her brother's aid. The siblings were defeated by Naga, and were banished from Archanea for eternity. However, to prevent them from becoming incredible dangers to the world upon degeneration, Naga granted them a Falchion as a parting gift. Duma accepted it and left Archanea with Mila forever.

Shaping Valentia

After settling on Valentia, Mila and her brother resided with mankind, but Duma's desires for mankind clashed with her own. Duma and Mila clashed, with the conflict resulting in a pact between the two, said pact split the continent to the north and south, making Rigel Duma's domain and Zofia Mila's. Rigel adhered to Duma's views, becoming a powerful nation, while Zofia followed Mila's and became a peaceful and prosperous nation. However, Zofia became corrupt as a result of Mila's philosophy, forgetting the meaning of toil, leading to crises such as the civil war and common bandit activity.

Thousands of years later, in the year 604, Mila vanished, causing a famine to befall Zofia and for their crops to wither, and also increasing monster activity across Valentia. Three years after the famine began, Zofia fell to a coup by its General Desaix, then to a successful invasion from Rigel. In response to these actions, Alm led a revolutionary army to defeat Rigel while Celica set out to find what happened to Mila. During her journey Celica and Alm discovered that Mila had been sealed inside Falchion by Emperor Rudolf three years ago.

Their efforts culminated with Alm leading an assault on the Duma Tower, in which Celica was being imprisoned by the priest Jedah. The two engaged Duma and his force of priests and monster servants in battle, which ended with Alm defeating Duma using Falchion. Duma's last words suggest that Mila then joined Duma in entering a slumber along with him, putting an end to their influence over Valentia.

Legacy

Unlike her brother, Mila is still worshiped in Valm at the time of Awakening, alongside Naga.

Fire Emblem Gaiden

Role

Mila never personally appears, but her disappearance is the catalyst behind Celica's quest. Her power is also a recurring element of gameplay, as through the game's shrines she can promote units, and through Falchion she gives Alm the power to defeat Duma.

Fire Emblem Awakening

Role

Like Duma, Mila does not directly appear in Awakening, though she is remembered more than her brother. She is still actively worshipped by people on Valm, with one former priestess of Mila being Pheros. Mila's name is also listed as one of many Fire Emblem locations a player can select as their home on their StreetPass profile card.

Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia

Role

Mila is largely absent from the main narrative, and is instead shown in four scenes. The first is when Rudolf marches into the Mila Temple with Falchion, where she damns Duma's name for breaking the Divine Accord while in her degenerated stupor. However, when Mila is dying, she seals Falchion within her body to protect Duma. Her body is moved to Duma Tower, where she remains until Alm and Celica fight at the end of Act 5. When Alm begins to falter against a possessed Celica, she calls to Alm to take Falchion in hand and releases the Kingsfang, allowing Alm to fight Celica.

When Alm pierces Celica with Falchion, Mila uses the last of her power to revive Celica and purify her soul. Mila then appears as a spirit and explains the circumstances of her degeneration and the sealing of Falchion. She the pleads for Alm and Celica to bring Valentia and her brother to peace. The final place she shows up is in a Memory Prism received after defeating The Creation, where she and Duma debate their philosophies and beliefs, and come to the conclusion that their rule is simply incompatible, and they must split Valentia in two and create the Divine Accord to prevent themselves from inciting further conflict.

Fire Emblem Heroes

There is one variation of Mila available in Heroes. In addition, Duma: Strength and Love features her as a Duo Hero alongside Duma.

Personality

Due to not having a speaking role in Gaiden, her personality is described through the words of others. She is caring and loving, even stated so by her brother. Where Duma's influence led humans in Rigel to become strong, militaristic, and uncaring, Mila caused her people to become overly reliant on her, and unable to survive without her blessings.

Among Mila's powers is the ability to resurrect the dead, if not everybody.^{[clarification needed]} This is reflected in Gaiden with its shrines to Mila, some of which allow Alm or Celica to revive deceased allied units. Mila also appears to be the one who bestows the ability to change class upon people, as interacting with her statue is what initiates promotions in Gaiden.
