Bomb Challenge is the fourth Challenge Stage unlocked in Kirby's Return to Dream Land and the fifth Challenge Stage unlocked in Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe. It tests Kirby's proficiency with the Bomb Copy Ability in a series of chambers, where the goal is to defeat all the enemies and collect all the coins as quickly as possible. The window of time to earn a Platinum Medal is 0:30 or higher.

Layout[edit]

The stage consists of two main chambers and one side chamber.

The first main area starts with a hallway lined with Star Blocks that can be bombed to reveal Score Coins. From there, Kirby needs to toss bombs into spike pits to hit Bomb Blocks that defeat enemies and open shutters to allow further progress. After aiming a bomb over some Gordos to hit a switch past a bottomless pit, the door to the second main area can be accessed.

The second main area starts with Kirby riding a platform as it moves toward the right. While riding it, Kirby will need to bomb the enemies along the way and collect the coins before they slip past the platform. After reaching the other side, two more switches need to be pressed by slipping bombs in on a conveyor belt to open the shutters. From there, Kirby rides another faster platform down another long hall, where switches need to be hit to make coins appear. A Bomb Block opens a side door that can be accessed to the left of the area where the moving platform stops. This area features a switch that briefly opens two shutters leading to a coin cache that will need to be hit twice for Kirby to access it. Back on the main path, the hall narrows as Kirby needs to bomb some Searches, then throw a bomb down a narrow spike chute to open the way toward the stage exit, which is guarded by three Armor Waddle Dees.

In Extra Mode, many more coins are on the field, though most of them are still in the path that Kirby would have taken anyway.

Tips[edit]

There are a few things to keep in mind when aiming for Platinum on this stage, though it should be noted that the strategies listed here are by no means the only ones that will do the job:

  • Bombs blow up immediately on spikes, but do not blow up each-other.
  • Enemies that fall into the abyss will not be counted as defeated; all of them need to be bombed, dropped into spikes, or otherwise visibly defeated.
  • Using Bomb Set in midair is a handy way to drop a bomb directly below Kirby without losing pace.
  • Using Bomb Bowl in many places is quicker than stopping to aim using Target Bomb, but more deft movement and timing is often required.

Guide[edit]

  • "You can change your throwing angle before hurling a bomb."
  • "A Bomb Bowl lets you roll a bomb straight ahead."
  • "A Bomb Set places a time bomb."

Pro Tips[edit]

  • "Hit far-off switches by jumping and then doing a Bomb Bowl!"
  • "You can do a Bomb Set in midair. If it hits a spike, it will explode."
  • "You can do a Bomb Set in mid-air. If it hits a spike, it will explode." (British Wii version)
