A Mii in Tomodachi Collection with a problem.
This article is about things Miis may ask the player for help with in Tomodachi Collection and Tomodachi Life. For things Miis may ask the player for help with in Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream, see Pondering.

Problems are various issues and queries that Miis will ask of the player in the Tomodachi Life series. They are the main interactions that the player will have with their Miis, and come in four main types: general problems, friendship problems, love problems, and sadness problems.

The type of problem a Mii has can be identified by the icon that shows in their window: black for general, orange for friendship, pink for love, and blue for sadness. Completing a problem for a Mii will give the player some money and contribute to that Mii's happiness meter, which will cause them to level up when it is full.

When the player enters the apartment of a Mii with a problem, the music changes depending on the kind of problem the Mii has, going back to normal once the problem has been solved. The number of problems solved is kept track of and recorded in the apartment's office, with different island locations and rewards being unlocked as more problems are solved.

List of problems

General problems

ImageImage
These problems are the most broad in topic, covering food and item requests, sickness, and other questions not linked to social or romance problems.

Mii's statement Description Solution
"I'm hungry!"

"I'm super hungry."
"I'm starving!"
"I need to eat something! ANYTHING!"(US)/"I could eat anything!"(EU)
"I'd like some dessert."
"I'm thirsty!"
"I'd like some [variety] food."
"I'd like some [food]."

The Mii's stomach is empty, and they want some food. On occasion, Miis will ask for a food of a specific type, such as Asian or Italian food, or something greasy or spicy. They can also request a specific food item. Giving the Mii a food that fits with their request, as well as feeding them when they are "starving" or "need to eat something! ANYTHING!" will always result in a "loved it" reaction. Give the Mii food.
"I'd like some new clothes."

"I'd like some new clothes. Something [style] would be nice."
"I'd like a [clothing item]."

The Mii wants a new piece of clothing. They may sometimes specify clothing of a specific style, such as light or formal. They can also request a specific clothing item. Giving the Mii a clothing item that fits with their request will always result in a "loved it" reaction. Give the Mii clothes.
"I'd like a new hat."

"I'd like some kind of hair accessory."
"I want something [style] I can wear on my head."
"I'd like a [hat]."

The Mii wants a new hat. They may sometimes specify a hat of a specific style or type, such as an ugly or cute hat. They can also request a specific kind of hat. Giving the Mii a hat that fits with their request will always result in a "loved it" reaction. Give the Mii a hat.
"I'd like a new look for my apartment."(US)/"I'd like a new look for my room."(EU) The Mii wants a new interior. These problems tend to be far less common than food and clothing requests. Give the Mii a new interior.
"What should I say when I'm [happy/mad/worried]?"

"What should I say when I feel down?"

The Mii wants a phrase to say when they are in a specific mood. Fill out a phrase for the Mii.
"Okay, I'm going to say [phrase] when I'm [feeling happy/feeling down/feeling mad/worried about something]. How does that sound?"(US)/"I'm going to say [phrase] when I'm [happy/mad/feeling down/worried]. What do you think?"(EU) The Mii wants the player to review one of their chosen phrases. In Collection, this is the only way for the player to change a Mii's mood-specific phrases. Keep the phrase as-is or change it.
"I caught a cold. I don't feel so good..."(US)/"I've got a cold."(EU)

"My tummy feels rumbly."(US)/"My tummy doesn't feel too good."(EU)

The Mii is sick, and is pictured with either purple wisps or a raincloud of sadness depending on the version. If they have a cold, their head will pulse with heat, and if they have an upset stomach, their stomach will show spiky black viruses inside. In addition, Miis will refuse food if they have an upset stomach. Give the Mii a cold remedy or stomach medicine depending on their sickness.
"Take a look inside my head!"(US)/"Look inside my head!"(EU)

"Please look inside my belly!"(US)/"Please look inside my tummy!"(EU)

The Mii wants the player to tap their head or stomach to look inside it. Tap the requested area to look inside.
"I need to sneeze, but it won't come out!"(US)/"I want to sneeze but I can't..."(EU) The Mii needs the player's help to sneeze. Help the Mii sneeze by tickling their nose with a feather.
"Would you like to see a funny face I've been working on?"(US)/"Would you like to see a weird face that I've been practising?"(EU) The Mii wants the player to see a funny face they can make. Watch the Mii's face, then rate it when asked.
"Hey! You wanna hear my impression of [Mii]?"(US)/"Check out my impression of [Mii]."(EU) The Mii wants the player to hear their impression of another Mii. Speaking in the imitated Mii's voice, they will recite the Mii's catchphrase, or one of their mood-specific phrases if they do not have a catchphrase. If the imitated Mii has no chosen phrases, they will instead say "Hello, my name is [Mii]! Blah blah blah!" Listen to the Mii's impression, then rate it when asked.
"I lost something really important... Can you see if anyone's found it?"(US)/"I lost something really important..."(EU) The Mii has lost a belonging of theirs (a randomly chosen treasure), and the player must check with another Mii in the building to find it. Agree to find the missing item, then locate the Mii who has found it. The Mii will only receive happiness when the item is found and returned.
"Look what I found! Hey, it has the name [Mii] written on the back... Would you mind returning this to [Mii] for me?"(US)/"I found this! Hey, it has [Mii] written on the back... Can you give it back to [Mii]?"(EU) Appears after the player has agreed to locate a Mii's missing belonging. The Mii will show the item to the player, realize it belongs to someone else, then give it to the player to return to its owner. Return the item to its owner.
Various questions The Mii will ask the player one of many different questions about random topics, such as "Have you ever gone traveling abroad?" or "If you got to choose your own nickname, what would it be?" The player can then pick a response from three or four options, with each response prompting a different comment from the Mii. Answer the Mii's question by picking a response.
"I got a strange letter...someone wants to meet me up on the roof. I don't know who wrote it...should I go?"(US)/"I got a letter from somebody to meet them on the roof. I don't know who wrote it...should I go?"(EU) The Mii receives a letter from an unknown sender, telling them to meet them on the apartment's roof. If the request is accepted, the Mii will encounter another random Mii wearing a mustache and glasses, who will tell them a random phrase before leaving, leaving the Mii baffled. Accept or reject the invitation. If the invitation is rejected, the Mii will not gain happiness.
"Can I tell you something impressive about my darling?"

"Wanna hear something cool about my wonderful [husband/wife]?"
"Mind if I talk about my beautiful baby real quick?"

The Mii wants to ramble about their sweetheart, spouse, or child. Their speech will be comically fast-forwarded through after a few lines, as if to avoid keeping the player listening for too long. Listen to the Mii's spiel.
"I'm in a bind... I could really use [amount of money]. In cash. Like, now."

"Hey, so, uh...I need to get my hands on [amount of money] right away!" "Hey... Um...any idea where I can get [amount of money]? Like, now-ish?"

The Mii requests a random amount of money from the player. Give the Mii the money they ask for or refuse. The Mii will not gain happiness if they are turned down.
"Thanks for your help the other day. It's good to know you have my back. Here's a little something to show my gratitude." The Mii wants to give the player a random amount of money. Accept or refuse the gift. The Mii will not gain happiness for the resolving of this problem.
"I'd love to take a bath."(US)/"I want to take a bath."(EU) The Mii wants to take a bath. Give the Mii a bath set.
"I'd like to have a disposable camera. I need to express myself!"(US)/"I'd like to have a disposable camera."(EU) The Mii wants to use a disposable camera to take a picture. This picture can be of "Something artsy" (a photo of something from real life) or "Someone we know" (a photo of a few Miis on the island in a random situation) and can be saved to the 3DS system. Give the Mii a disposable camera, and rate their photo when asked.
"I'd love to try a new hair color."(US)/"I'd love to change my hair color."(EU) The Mii wants to dye their hair. Give the Mii hair-color spray, then pick a color to dye their hair to.
"I wish I was all grown up..."(US)/"I wish I were older..."(EU)

"I wish I could be a kid again..."(US)/"I wish I were younger..."(EU)

The Mii wants to experience what it's like to be an adult (if they are currently a kid) or wants to be a kid again (if they are currently an adult). Most often shows up when the potential romance options in the Mii's current age group are extremely limited compared to those of the other age group. In the Japanese and Korean versions, only the age-up request is present, and the effect is only temporary due to the lack of the kid-o-matic item. Give the Mii an age-o-matic or kid-o-matic depending on their request.

Friendship problems

ImageImage
These problems are more social in nature, and include friend requests, fights, and setting up dates. In Tomodachi Collection, they are represented with the general black problem icon.

Mii's statement Description Solution
"I want to be friends with [Mii]." The Mii wants to be friends with another resident that they don't know. If accepted, they will ask what to do or what they should talk about in order to get along, where the player can pick one of four options. The Mii will then visit the other Mii's apartment to introduce themselves. If the attempt at making friends is successful, the two Miis will wave at each other (in Western versions) or bow (in the Japanese and Korean versions) with a circle of stars around them. Help the Mii to make friends by providing advice. If the Miis fail to become friends, no happiness will be gained.
"I heard that [Mii] wants to be friends." The Mii has heard about another resident that they don't know wanting to be friends. If accepted, they will immediately visit the other Mii's apartment to introduce themselves. Accept the request to make friends. If the Miis fail to become friends, no happiness will be gained.
"I'd like to introduce [Mii 1] to somebody... How about [Mii 2]?" The Mii would like to introduce one of their friends to another friend, with the player picking a topic for them to talk about. The player can also ask the Mii to think of another friend to introduce to the first Mii. The Mii will invite both Miis over to their apartment and help them start a conversation; the Miis smiling and laughing indicates that they are highly likely to become friends, while the Miis becoming confused indicates that they will most likely not become friends. Settle on a person for the Mii to introduce to their friend, then pick a topic for them to talk about. If their choices on a Mii to introduce to their friend are exhausted or the Miis fail to become friends, no happiness will be gained.
"I don't really know much about this [Mii] character. What do you think about me and [Mii]?" The Mii is curious how they would get along with another Mii they are not currently friends with. The player can select "Great match!", "Nothing special", or "Not compatible". The answer will not affect their probability of becoming friends in the future. Answer the Mii's question by picking a response.
"I think [friend] and I have gotten pretty friendly. What do you think about me and [friend]?"

"It seems like [friend] and I aren't really on the same page... What do you think about me and [friend]?"
"I think [best friend] is a good friend of mine. What do you think about me and [best friend]?"
"[Best friend] and I don't get along so well. What do you think about me and [best friend]?"
"I think my relationship with [sweetheart] is really special. What do you think about me and [sweetheart]?"
"I feel like I might have something special with [sweetheart]. What do you think about me and [sweetheart]?"
"I think [spouse] and I have grown very close. What do you think about me and [spouse]?"
"I think [spouse] and I are a fairly close couple. What do you think about me and [spouse]?"

The Mii wants to hear about the player's opinion on their relationship with their best friend, sweetheart, spouse, or one of their friends. Which line is used is dependent on the current status of the relationship. The player can select "Great match!", "Nothing special", or "Not compatible". The chosen answer will affect the current status of their relationship, by raising it a stage, leaving it unchanged, or lowering it a stage, respectively. Answer the Mii's question by picking a response.
"I'm worried about me and [sweetheart/spouse]. Do you think [sweetheart/spouse] still likes me?"

"I've been a little worried about me and [sweetheart/spouse]... Do you think [sweetheart/spouse] still likes me?"
"I've been a little stressed out about me and [sweetheart/spouse]... Do you think [sweetheart/spouse] still likes me?"
"My relationship with [sweetheart/spouse] seems to be on the rocks. Do you think [sweetheart/spouse] still likes me?"

The Mii is worried due to their current relationship status with their sweetheart or spouse being below average, wondering if their partner still loves them. The player can select "Absolutely!", "Probably...", or "Actually...". The chosen answer will affect the current status of their relationship, by raising it a stage, leaving it unchanged, or lowering it a stage, respectively. Answer the Mii's question by picking a response.
"Things aren't going so great with me and [sweetheart/spouse]..."(US)/"I want to break up with [sweetheart/spouse]."(EU) The Mii's current relationship with their sweetheart or spouse is below average, and they express interest in ending the relationship. The player can tell them to break up or convince them to try and work it out. Choosing the former will have the Mii meet their partner in the café and tell them that they want to break up, ending the relationship, and choosing the latter will have both Miis attempt to work it out in a darkened apartment; this can be successful, restoring their relationship status to neutral levels, or fail, causing them to break up. If the Miis break up, both will gain high amounts of sadness, and married couples will lose their house at Mii Homes. Tell the Mii to move on or try to work it out.
"I had a fight with [Mii]. I'm so upset!"(US)/"I had a fight with [Mii]! I'm so mad!"(EU) The Mii had a fight with one of their friends or their partner, causing them to appear angry with puffs of smoke around them. They will not visit friends or other locations on the island (aside from their home if they are married) other than the apartment of the Mii they are fighting with, where both Miis throw items at each other. They will also not use any gifts other than a punching bag, and will refuse most gifted Goods. Once calmed, the Mii will head to the other Mii's apartment to apologize; if the apology is accepted, the two will become friends again, though if it is rejected, the Mii will gain sadness. Both outcomes will remove the anger status from the fighting Miis, though if the apology is rejected and the other Mii goes long enough without wanting to make up (or gets into a fight with someone else), the Miis will stop being friends entirely. Calm the Mii down by giving them a bath set, music box, swing, travel ticket, or a food, clothing item, hat, or interior that they have a higher than "liked it" reaction to, causing them to visit the other's apartment to apologize.
"I'm sick of fighting. I want to get along with [Mii] again."(US)/"I don't want to fight with [Mii] anymore."(EU) After a failed apology for a fight, the Mii who was approached regrets turning the other Mii down and wants to make up. If accepted, the two Miis will successfully make up and become friends again. This will also resolve the other Mii's sadness, if they are still sad. Tell the Mii to make up.
"[Mii] and I had a huge fight that wasn't my fault at all. I'm so mad!"(US)/"I had a huge fight with [Mii] and now I'm really, really mad!"(EU) The Mii had a huge fight with one of their friends or their partner, causing them to appear angry with fire blazing around them. Acts mostly similar to a regular fight, though the Miis cannot be calmed down with gifts. Instead, a mutual friend of the Miis must be approached to work things out. Find a friend of the fighting Miis who is interested in resolving the conflict, then tell them to intervene.
"[Mii 1] and [Mii 2] had a fight and still haven't made up."(US)/"[Mii 1] had a fight with [Mii 2] and won't make up."(EU) During a huge fight, a mutual friend of the fighting Miis wants to help them make up. If accepted, the Mii will bring the fighting Miis together and try to talk them through to calm them down. If their attempt is successful, the Miis will wave/bow at each other happily as the intervening Mii claps, and their friendship will be repaired; if it fails, the Miis will continue to throw things at each other as the intervening Mii ducks, and the Miis will stop being friends entirely. Tell the Mii to intervene. If the two Miis fail to make up, no happiness will be gained.
"I think [male Mii] needs a sweetheart... How about setting him up with [female Mii]?" The Mii wants to get two of their opposite-gender friends together. If the Mii has other single female friends, it's possible to select which one to set up with the chosen male Mii. If accepted, the Mii will set the two up on a date, secretly following them to the train station, amusement park, and café. When the date ends, the two Miis will arrive at the fountain; if the Miis talked happily during all three scenes, they will agree to hang out again soon and become sweethearts, though if they did not, they will simply thank each other for hanging out and leave. Select a Mii to set up with the friend, or turn the request down. If the request is rejected or the set up Miis fail to get together, no happiness will be gained.
"Why would [Mii 1]... want me to go out with [Mii 2]?" After a relationship setup fails, one of the Miis is curious why they were set up with the other. The player can select "Perfect match!", "For a joke?", or "I don't know". If the two Miis are friends, the chosen answer will affect the current status of their relationship, by raising it a stage, leaving it unchanged, or lowering it a stage, respectively. Answer the Mii's question by picking a response.
"I'd like take [Mii] on a blind date... Do you think I should?" The Mii wants to try going on a date with another Mii they don't know. The player can accept and pick a location for them to meet, causing the two Miis to become sweethearts if the date is successful. Only present in the Korean release of Life. Accept and select a location, or turn the request down. If the request is rejected or the set up Miis fail to get together, no happiness will be gained.
"I'd like to take [sweetheart/spouse] on a date. Where should we go?" The Mii wants to take their partner on a date somewhere on the island, and the player can select a location for them to go. The couple will then head to the chosen location to hang out, raising their relationship status by a stage. Pick a location for the two Miis to go.
"I'd like to get to know [best friend] better. Maybe we could travel together."

"I'd love to go on a romantic vacation with [sweetheart]."
"My darling and I would like to go on a trip somewhere. Just the two of us." (Spouse)
"A family vacation would be the best thing ever..." (Spouse and child)

The Mii wants to go on a vacation with their best friend, sweetheart, spouse, or partner and child (if the child is still living at home). Give the Mii a travel ticket.

Love problems

ImageImage
These problems are similar to friendship problems, only dealing with love-related topics. For every one of these problems other than a Mii wondering if another Mii likes them, the Mii will be shown with gray moyamoya/saengsung clouds or pink hearts containing question marks floating around them depending on the version. Their thought bubble for these problems will also contain a pink heart rather than the standard black scribble.

Mii's statement Description Solution
"I have feelings for [Mii]. I've got to tell [him/her]!" The Mii wants to confess to one of their friends. The player can help them by telling them how to confess, where to meet them, and change their clothes before they leave. If the other Mii accepts the confession, the two will become sweethearts, though if the asker is turned down, they will gain sadness. It's also possible for up to two of the target's other friends to intercept the confession by declaring their love for the Mii, and the target can choose to reciprocate the affections of any one of the Miis, or none of them. If the target picks someone other than the original asker, they will ask the player if they're okay with the relationship; saying yes will have them become sweethearts, while saying no will stop them from getting together. The Mii can also be told not to confess, whereupon they will ask why before gaining sadness; the answer given has no effect other than what the Mii responds with. Agree to help, then prepare them for the confession, or reject it.
"I'm interested in both [Mii 1] and [Mii 2]... Who should I confess my feelings to?" The Mii is interested in confessing to two of their friends, but can't decide which one. The player can tell them to confess to either one of them, which will prompt the player to decide on the circumstances of the confession, or to think on it more, which will have them not confess to either of them. Tell the Mii to confess to one of the choices, or to think on it. If they are told not to confess, no happiness will be gained.
"I think [Mii] likes me. What do you think?" The Mii is wondering if an opposite-gender friend of theirs likes them. The player can select "I think so too!", "It won't work", "In your dreams", or "Go for it!". Of the first three responses, the chosen answer will affect the current status of their relationship, by raising it two stages, lowering it a stage, or leaving it unchanged, respectively. If the last response is picked, the interaction will be treated as a love confession, with the Mii asking what they should say, where to go, and what to wear in order to confess. Answer the Mii's question by picking a response, or go through with a confession.
"I want to propose to [sweetheart]. Do you think I should?" One Mii of a couple who have a positive relationship wants to propose to their sweetheart. The player can tell them where to propose (fancy restaurant, fireworks show, train station, or amusement park), and change their outfit first. When the two Miis arrive at the location, the Mii being proposed to will have their thoughts visible to the player; the player must tap the button on the touch screen when they are thinking about their sweetheart in order to prompt the other to continue the conversation at the right time. This must happen four times for the Mii to propose. If the other Mii is thinking about something different or nothing in particular, they or something outside the conversation will interrupt the proposing Mii. If three mistakes are made (shown by hearts floating above the couple), the other Mii will leave, rendering the proposal a failure. If the proposal is successful, the two Miis will reappear at the proposing Mii's apartment and give the player a gift; an age-o-matic will have to be used if one or both of the Miis are children. The two Miis will proceed to get married and become each other's spouses. Help the Mii propose to their sweetheart. If the confession fails, no happiness will be gained.
"[Spouse] and I have been thinking about having a baby..."(US)/"I've been thinking of having a child with [Spouse]..."(EU) One Mii of a married couple with a positive relationship wants to have a baby. The player can agree, which will cause a baby to be born to the couple roughly a day and a half later, or turn them down. Only appears if the option for married couples to have babies is enabled in the game's settings. Accept for the Miis to have a child or decline. If the offer is turned down, no happiness will be gained.
"I can't stop thinking about how things used to be... I really miss [ex-sweetheart/spouse]. I think we should get back together..."(US)/"For some reason, I keep thinking back about old times... I can't forget about [ex-sweetheart/spouse]. I think we should get back together..."(EU) The Mii misses their former partner, wanting to get back together. The player can help them, spurring the two to meet at a confession location in order for the Mii to ask to get back together. If this succeeds, the two Miis will restore their former relationship status; if it fails, the asking Mii will gain sadness. The player can also turn down the request. Help the Mii try to get back together with their ex-partner or tell them to move on.

Sadness problems

ImageImage
These problems appear when a Mii is depressed over something, such as a rejected apology or a breakup, and will show the Mii with purple wisps around them or a raincloud over their head depending on the version. Their thought bubble will contain the face of the Mii they are feeling sad over. This also replaces the Mii's normal happiness meter with a sadness meter colored blue corresponding to their current amount of sadness. Sad Miis will not visit friends or any location on the island, other than their home if they are married, though they can appear at a pity party at the café. In Collection, the window icon for sadness is purple instead of blue.

Miis cannot level up as long as they are in this state, and the player must give them gifts to lower their sadness. However, the player will not earn money from this until the sadness is resolved. In Tomodachi Life, sadness will gradually decrease over time until it is left at a very small amount. Giving the Mii a travel ticket or their all-time favorite food will completely remove their sadness, as will another Mii becoming their friend. For a Mii that has been rejected after trying to make up from a fight, the other Mii apologizing to them will also remove their sadness.

Mii's statement Description
"Life is unexpectedly tough right now." The Mii has been rejected after trying to make up with a friend from a fight. Tapping on their speech bubble shows a flashback of the two Miis fighting.
"I guess I'm just not good enough..." The Mii wanted to confess to a friend, but was told not to by the player.
"I was rejected. Ouch..." The Mii tried to confess their love, but was rejected.
"[Mii] rejected me, but I'm not going to give up so easily! I have to try again, or I'll regret it. What do you think?" The Mii was rejected from a love confession, but has gained a second wind to try again. The player can accept or turn down this request, and if the Mii tries again, they will offer the other Mii a random food as a present. If the Mii is successful, their sadness is removed and the two will become sweethearts; if the Mii is turned down again, their sadness will also be removed as they decide to get over it themselves. However, if on the second try the other Mii does not show up, the Mii will gain even more sadness.
"Maybe there really are other fish in the sea. I should start going out again..."

"My heart has hurt since we broke up. It's not heartburn either."

The Mii is depressed from a breakup with their sweetheart or spouse.
"Will I ever recapture those happy times again?" The Mii was dumped by their sweetheart or spouse. This transitions into a series of flashbacks of the sweethearts' relationship, interspersed with photos of the two together.
"I guess we weren't meant to be together— at least not right now." The Mii was rejected from getting back together with their ex-partner.

Traveler problems

Exclusive to Tomodachi Life, Travelers who stay at the campground have uniquely presented problems and requests, which are not flat-out stated by the Mii, but are rather hinted at through speech bubble dialogue and the Mii's appearance. After heading to their tent, a traveler will have a problem that the player can solve by giving them the necessary item. Afterward, they may have an additional problem, either wanting to talk to an island resident or having a mosquito in their tent. Traveler's problem bubbles appear with a sad face inside them, rather than the standard black scribble.

Trivia

  • The number of problems solved recorded in the apartment's office caps at 9,999; a special news broadcast occurs when this limit is reached.
