Named in 1852 by C. Bechí in honor of Giuseppe Giovanni Antonio Meneghini (30 July 1811, Padua, Italy – 29 January 1889, Pisa, Italy), who first discovered the species. He was an Italian botanist, geologist and paleontologist, and the professor of geology at the University of Pisa.
Type Locality:
Synthetic meneghinite may be Cu-free but is much less stable by comparison to Cu-bearing meneghinite.
May occur in intimate intergrowths with boulangerite.
