https://www.mediaite.com/politics/trump/trump-will-reportedly-spend-millions-making-the-midterms-a-referendum-on-his-record

President Donald Trump is reportedly about to make a bold gamble by making November’s midterm elections a referendum on his performance.

Republicans hold a narrow seven-seat majority in the House and control the Senate 53-47. Control of both chambers is very much up in the air in November.

On Tuesday evening, The Atlantic reported that early this month, Trump met with his political advisers in the Oval Office to discuss how to allocate the $400 million his MAGA Inc. super PAC has on hand with less than three months to go before the elections. Given that the president’s approval rating is stuck in the low 30s, the publication noted that Republican strategists are concerned that Trump will be a drag on GOP candidates.

“When the issues that you typically campaign on don’t move voters—or voters are pissed off at you about those issues—the question becomes: What do you campaign on?” a person familiar with the meeting told The Atlantic. The outlet reported that Trump’s advisers told him his low approval rating is a messaging issue and that Americans are not aware of his accomplishments. The advisers pointed to repeated stock market highs, fewer fentanyl deaths, and a “sealed” border with Mexico.

Republicans are going to take the house and senate. It’s a foregone conclusion. They have the power, money, they lack scruples, and there’s too much at stake for them (more money and power). With eroded journalism and control of narrative through control of social media algorithms, it’s not going to go any other way.

Coinbase CEO weighs California exit over ‘deeply un-American’ wealth tax
https://nypost.com/2026/08/25/business/coinbase-ceo-weighs-california-exit-over-deeply-un-american-wealth-tax/

Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong said he is considering exiting California over the state’s “deeply un-American” proposed wealth tax.

During a Tuesday evening appearance on “The Katie Miller Podcast,” Armstrong warned that tech founders are fleeing California over the state’s proposed first-of-its-kind billionaire tax – and hinted his firm, which operates its largest office in San Francisco, might be next in line.

“I think it’s deeply un-American to seize people’s assets. It might be unconstitutional,” said Armstrong, who is worth an estimated $8.8 billion, according to Forbes.

He argued that he has paid “tons of taxes” on his income and has no problem doing so – but that an extra tax on wealth and assets “starts to feel like a third-world country. That is a dangerous, dangerous path to go down.

“It’s against my values, I would say. I think it’s bad for the state and for America. So we’re considering any and all options basically at this point to be, in terms of relocation,” Armstrong said.

The exec added that he wouldn’t be so opposed to additional taxes if there wasn’t so much fraud and waste in the government.

Rocky Horror star Tim Curry dies at 80

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c5yd92gkk7vo

English actor Tim Curry, best known for playing the outlandish Frank-N-Furter in film musical The Rocky Horror Picture Show, has died at the age of 80.

Curry first played the role on stage before the film version, which was released in 1975 and has remained a cult favourite.

The actor also played fearsome clown Pennywise in the 1990 TV version of Stephen King's It, and was Long John Silver in 1996's Muppet Treasure Island.

His other films included Annie, The Hunt for Red October and Home Alone 2, and he was nominated for three Tony Awards on Broadway.

Born in Cheshire in 1946, Curry's first acting job after university was in the original London production of groundbreaking rock musical Hair in 1968.

In 1973, a fellow cast member, Richard O'Brien, asked Curry to audition for his new musical, and cast him in the role of the flamboyant lingerie-clad "sweet transvestite" Dr Frank-N-Furter.

How Canada could hit back to hurt the US economy - and Trump

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c05rj80ve56o

What leverage does Canada, which sells about 70% of its goods to the US, actually have in this spiralling trade dispute with its southern neighbour, who also happens to be the world's largest economy?

Canada is the top customer for 26 US states, including Maine, Michigan, and Wisconsin. And it is in the top three for 45 of the 50 American states, suggesting Prime Minister Mark Carney has room to manoeuvre in a trade fight.

For now, Carney's planned Canadian retaliatory duties are strategic "dollar-for-dollar" countermeasures focused on steel, dairy, appliances, agricultural equipment, electronics, pulp and paper - though the list is still being finalised.

Polls suggest a majority of Canadians would be unhappy if his government went in the other direction and made significant concessions to the US. That sentiment is shared by Ontario Premier Doug Ford, one of Trump's most vocal critics north of the border, who responded to the tariff threats by telling the US president to "kiss my ass".

https://www.cnn.com/2026/08/25/entertainment/dolly-parton-death

Dolly Parton, who rose from humble beginnings to the greatest heights of American music and became one of the country’s most philanthropic, unifying and beloved stars, died Tuesday at her home in Nashville, according to a family statement. She was 80.

The statement, attributed to her nephew Bryan Seaver, said Parton died “peacefully.” A small, private service will be held for her close family, the statement added.

In a career that spanned over half a century, Parton captured the American experience, penning more than 3,000 songs. Those included “Coat of Many Colors,” a quiet ode to her mother, who stitched together garments in the family’s rural Tennessee home. She wrote and performed songs of love and heartbreak, like “Jolene” and “I Will Always Love You.” “9 to 5,” the title track from the movie of the same name, in which Parton also starred, became an anthem for American women and workers.

Parton went on to release 49 albums and win 11 Grammys, and became one of the most successful country crossover artists of all time, scoring regular hits on the pop charts, including “Islands in the Stream,” a duet with Kenny Rogers.

Later in life, she funneled her massive success into philanthropy, founding a library program that has gifted more than 300 million books to children around the world.

Trump scores major win as Supreme Court clears way for mail-in voting order ahead of 2026 midterms

https://apnews.com/article/postal-service-midterms-trump-mail-voting-b4b9ef095b4d6bceab18adbb34814640

Real new:
The Supreme Court ruled Monday that President Trump’s executive order tightening the rules around mail-in voting can be implemented ahead of the November midterm elections.

The 6-3 decision — with liberal Justices Ketanji Brown Jackson, Elena Kagan and Sonia Sotomayor dissenting — marks a major victory for Trump, but appears to leave room for future legal challenges that could delay the president’s order.

In its ruling, the high court overturned a lower court order that blocked the Trump administration from enforcing the March 31 mail-in voting order in response to a lawsuit filed by 23 Democratic-led states, who argued the directive unconstitutionally infringes on their authority to administer elections.

The Supreme Court did not rule on whether Trump’s order was lawful, but determined it was too early for states to sue over it because harms must be “concrete” rather than “conjectural or hypothetical.”

What investigation? Every investigation made reveals the same thing: maybe double-digit cases of genuine fraud out of BILLIONS of votes cast. A rounding error. There hasn't been an investigation that shows what you want, yet you continue to push this bullshit. You think you'd get pushback if there was genuine evidence of fraud, if it turned out illegals are a problem? NO! The left worships institutions to a fault, the idea that the most basic one of them all is on shaky ground is abhorrent! But there's no evidence of that, and every time you pretend there is, it's clearly a naked attempt to ensure your side wins forevermore. Why close DMV offices in poor areas? Why only allow forms of ID that old rich people would have and not anything a young person would have? Why force people to work on election day, then make it the only day to vote? Why is there never a concession to make legitimate votes EASIER, or to raise proper participation in the democratic process?
There's your 'pushback'. There's your 'fight'. It's to stop bullshit that tries to suppress the most basic and fundamental right of citizens in this republic.

https://www.thewrap.com/creative-content/tv-shows/jelly-roll-trump-jokes-jimmy-kimmel-live-monologue-fans-react/

Jelly Roll took multiple shots at President Donald Trump during his Monday night monologue as guest host of “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” catching more than a few viewers by surprise.

The country singer, best known for his anthems “Save Me,” “Son of a Sinner” and “I Am Not Okay,” filled in for host Jimmy Kimmel for the second year in a row, and made himself right at home by slinging jabs about the president’s cringy antics at the Freedom 250 Grand Prix, as well as his weight gain.

“Let’s talk about the main event of America this weekend. It was the big IndyCar race hosted by the president,” Jelly Roll said. “The cars drove through the streets of D.C., and there’s Donald Trump who apparently has never held a flag before.”

He added: “What a s–t job! How do you f–k up waving a flag?”

The jokes at Trump’s expense didn’t stop there, as the Grammy winner went on: “But the president seemed to enjoy the IndyCar race, which was a real switch up for him, ’cause normally he only likes his own race.”

He then called out the president for driving his motorcade around the track.

“Trump also drove around the track in his motorcade, doing what they call the lap of honor, which sounds like a loyalty program at a strip club,” Jelly Roll quipped. “5% cash back in the champagne room for all Lap of Honor members.”

https://www.newsnationnow.com/us-news/west/darth-vader-mocks-flock-cameras-san-diego-council-meeting/

(NewsNation) — A man cosplaying as Darth Vader appeared to sarcastically promote surveillance technology and Flock cameras at a San Diego City Council committee meeting last week.

Dressed in costume and mimicking the voice of the iconic “Star Wars” villain, the unidentified man repeatedly praised the technology, using terminology and references to characters from the sci-fi franchise.
“The Emperor is a fan of Flock, and we must continue utilizing Flock technologies so that we can follow and surveil the Rebel scum as they move from playground to playground, from playground to pool, from pool to gymnasium,” the man said.

The masked man’s criticism was specifically aimed at leading automated license plate reader provider, Flock Safety. The company has been the subject of increasing public scrutiny over concerns about police misconduct.
While police have used the technology for years to capture vehicles’ make, model and license plate numbers, an officer in Mooresville, North Carolina, was recently fired and arrested for allegedly accessing Flock’s database 31 times to track her partner’s ex-wife. Similar reports of misuse have been documented around the country.

“We all know that the Flock cameras are not only following the license plate readers … they are following children in parks and gymnasiums, and we need this,” the man dressed as Darth Vader said. “I need this so I can stalk my ex-girlfriend.”

California lawmaker’s unprecedented attack on ICE in move to ban new tech
https://nypost.com/2026/08/25/us-news/california-lawmakers-move-to-ban-new-ice-electric-shock-gloves-in-fierce-battle/

California lawmakers are making a furious push to stop ICE from using a high-tech device that federal officials say could give agents another option for subduing combative people without reaching for a firearm.

Assembly Bill 2760 would ban “wearable electroshock devices” from being used by law enforcement anywhere in California, explicitly including federal agencies.

It would also prevent state and local law enforcement agencies from using state funds to buy the technology and force them to rewrite their use-of-force policies to prohibit it.

The extraordinary move comes as the Department of Homeland Security moves toward spending up to $20 million to equip ICE agents with thousands of the devices.

ICE and federal officials support the technology.

California lawmakers and civil rights groups oppose it.

MAGA 'journalist' quietly went from covering the Pentagon to working for it
https://www.rawstory.com/pentagon-2677770800/
The Pentagon offered clarification Monday on how a prominent MAGA activist who previously received journalist credentials began working for the department.

Jennica Pounds, who operates the influential pro-Trump DataRepublican account on X, now serves at President Donald Trump’s Department of Defense as a special government employee, according to Pounds and the department.

“Ms. [Jennica] Pounds serves at the Department of Defense as a Special Government Employee and is no longer a credentialed journalist at the Pentagon,” the department said, according to CBS News national security coordinating producer Jim LaPorta.

The Pentagon said her press credentials expired in June 2026, which Pounds herself confirmed in her own social media post.

"I began working as a Special Government Employee for the Department of War (sic) in July, to serve the country in a more hands-on way," she wrote Monday. "My press credentials at the Pentagon expired in June, and I did not seek a renewal of those credentials. I currently am not a member of the Pentagon Press Corps and no longer attend briefings or events as a journalist."

A special government employee is generally a temporary federal worker, adviser, or consultant appointed to perform duties for the executive or legislative branch.

Its not even a great version of the story, the real lede is that she was supposed to be a paid government shill but is literally too stupid to do the job right. Jennica Pounds, who is more well-known as MAGA influencer DataRepublican on social media, was outed as a special government employee of the Department of Defense Monday. Pounds’s Pentagon employment came to light after a bizarre incident in which she claimed she was being “set up” by the deep state — but it was revealed she merely botched a “scoop” she was being handed by a State Department official.

Up until June, Pounds was a member of the credentialed Pentagon press corps. She had not disclosed her new gig with the Pentagon.

The story began to blow open on Friday, Aug. 21, when the X account for the far-right outlet AF Post wrote, “Jennica Pounds, aka Data Republican, a Department of War employee, alleges that Undersecretary of State Sarah Rogers is attempting to ‘entrap’ Pounds by providing her with information to ‘leak’ under the guise of offering her a ‘scoop.'”

Per AF Post, Pounds also believed the “Deep State” — or Rogers — was “trying to set her up to commit a crime, in this case claiming Rogers is trying to entice her to leak sensitive information.”

“It’s not okay when the Deep State sets you up to commit a crime,” Pounds wrote in a now-deleted thread. “I have never been more angry in my life.”

Iran faces massive new triple-threat as Hormuz begins to open, cash gets tight and pols call to end the war
https://nypost.com/2026/08/23/world-news/iran-faces-triple-threat-as-control-over-hormuz-economy-wavers/

Iran’s supreme leader is under mounting pressure over the war — as the regime’s grip on the Strait of Hormuz weakens, cash finally starts to get tight and top political leaders publicly urge the Islamists in charge to find a way out of the conflict.

The latest phase of the conflict has seen more and more ships quietly slipping through Hormuz, with nearly 200 vessels sailing through the strait last week, according to data from the UK Maritime Trade Operations Center.

The flow represents a 400% spike in the last two weeks, with maritime analysts Kpler noting that the traffic finding safe passage — aided by US Navy escorts — effectively means Iran has lost partial control of the strait.

There’s no economic relief in sight for the regime as the US continues to slap sanctions on the Islamic republic as part of its maximum pressure campaign, with Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent threatening more penalties to come.

Finally, latest week, the United Arab Emirates suspended all trade with Iran over renewed missile fire — taking away a key export hub that had helped soften the shocks of US sanctions.

Far-right agitator Jake Lang was arrested Saturday after the vehicle he was in drove onto a sidewalk in front of Minneapolis City Hall and towards a crowd of people as Lang raised a large sign with the N-word on it.

Minneapolis police intervened and later arrested all occupants following the incident, which occurred around 11:50 a.m., police said. Police say everyone in the two vehicles that drove towards the crowd was arrested on “probable cause riot.”

Both vehicles were impounded. MPD made four additional arrests near City Hall on suspicion of disorderly conduct and assault, among other alleged violations, interim Police Chief Bill Peterson said at a news briefing.

Hundreds of people, many appointed in masks and goggles, had gathered outside of City Hall for a counter protest against Lang, who had announced he was coming.

Lang, who spent four years in prison for his role in the Jan. 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol before President Donald Trump pardoned him in 2025, has brought his provocations to Minneapolis before. In January, he staged an anti-Islam rally outside City Hall after an ICE agent shot and killed Renee Good during the federal immigration crackdown.

He arrived here Saturday to advocate for a Rochester woman who called a Black autistic child a racial slur, according to a profane-ridden post on his twitter account.

In a post on Twitter earlier this week, Mayor Jacob Frey told people to stay away from the rally.
