Mr. Shine & Mr. Bright are a duo boss in Kirby's Adventure, Kirby's Dream Land 2, Kirby's Avalanche and Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land. They also make appearances in Kirby's Dream Land 3 (as paintings created and brought to life by Ado) and in Kirby: Canvas Curse (where they cameo as drawings in the Paint Panic Sub-Game); in the latter, however, they are drawn separately.

Mr. Shine is a crescent moon with arms and legs, while Mr. Bright is a burning sun with arms but no legs. Their facial expressions vary from scowls to grins, and their yellow or white limbs are thin and flexible, albeit relatively short.

While both members of the duo usually appear in the same games as each other, even if they are not seen together, Mr. Bright appears alone in Kirby and the Rainbow Curse.

Kirby's Adventure / Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land[edit]

Mr. Shine & Mr. Bright made their debut in this title, serving as the boss of Butter Building. They fight against Kirby in a tag team style: one hangs in the air while the other one attacks on the ground, using tackles and projectiles against Kirby. The one in the air offers various support attacks to their partner. The time of day appears to shift if Mr. Shine or Mr. Bright appears in the air, as this either dims or brightens the stage.

To defeat the duo, Kirby can use the Dropped Stars that appear from the attacks of the hanging foe to strike at the grounded foe, or by repeatedly using his Copy Ability if possible. Alternatively, Kirby can gain the Cutter ability by swallowing the stars that drop when Mr. Shine is in the air, or gain the Fire ability by swallowing the stars that appear from Mr. Bright's sunbeam attack. After taking enough damage, Mr. Shine and Mr. Bright crash into each other and explode, leaving a Star Rod piece behind in the twilight for Kirby to collect.

In this battle, Mr. Shine's charge attack and cutter blade can both be crouched under - a trait which carries over to his appearance in Kirby's Dream Land 2.

Kirby's Pinball Land[edit]

Mr. Shine and Mr. Bright appear separately in the uppermost board of Kracko Land. Mr. Bright appears first, and must be hit three times to defeat, worth 900 points for each hit. Once he is defeated, Mr. Shine then appears, who must also be hit three times, though with each hit now being worth 1800 points. Once Mr. Shine goes down, a Warp Star appears which can take Kirby to the boss board against Kracko.

Kirby's Dream Course[edit]

In Kirby's Dream Course, Mr. Shine & Mr. Bright make a brief appearance when Day and Night Switch is used. Additionally, they have a course named after them, Mr. Shine & Mr. Bright Course.

Kirby's Avalanche[edit]

Mr. Shine & Mr. Bright are faced in Stage 10 of Competition mode in Kirby's Avalanche. They share the same playstyle as their Puyo Puyo equivalent, Schezo Wegey.

Kirby's Dream Land 2[edit]

Mr. Shine & Mr. Bright are fought at the end of Red Canyon. Their attack pattern is largely the same as their previous appearance, but they are given a new move, where they join up to create an eclipse, causing everywhere but the shaded area to flash, burning Kirby if he's out in the heat. Notably, Kirby can acquire the Burning Copy Ability by inhaling the drop stars that appear when Mr. Bright uses his sunbeam attack, as the Fire ability does not appear in this game.

The duo boss also appears in the Red Canyon Bonus Chance, where Mr. Bright tosses out Mini-Stars and Kirby has to dodge both Mr. Bright's attacks, and Mr. Shine's body bouncing along the floor.

Kirby's Block Ball[edit]

Mr. Shine and Mr. Bright appear in Stage 5 of this title. Mr. Shine actually appears on his own in round 4, and needs to be hit 4 times for him to flee, worth 5000 points. In round 5, he appears again as the Boss, and has 6 hit points. He moves in a circular fashion while throwing cutter blades that can temporarily shrink paddles if hit. Once he is defeated, Mr. Bright appears, who also has 6 HP, moving back and forth while launching various fireballs one that can hit the bottom paddle. Defeating both of them yields 50000 points and clears the stage.

Kirby's Dream Land 3[edit]

Mr. Shine and Mr. Bright are among the enemies painted by Ado at the end of Cloudy Park. While they still take turns being grounded or airborne, the grounded one only moves towards the edge of the screen before going to the other path in attempt to hit Kirby, with the airborne one attempting to follow them as well. Once the grounded one is defeated, the one in the air starts bouncing around the screen while dropping projectiles. In this game, Mr. Shine has no legs.

Kirby: Canvas Curse[edit]

In Kirby: Canvas Curse, Mr. Shine & Mr. Bright appear separately as possible paintings that Paint Roller can draw in the mini-game Paint Panic.

Kirby Mass Attack[edit]

Mr. Shine & Mr. Bright appear in Strato Patrol EOS as the bosses of stage 3. They use very similar attacks to their previous appearances; Mr. Shine rolls across the screen to harass the Kirbys, while Mr. Bright fires beams from his hands and solar waves from his body, which can be destroyed. Mr. Shine is invulnerable to any attacks while rolling. If Mr. Bright is defeated first, Mr. Shine will revive him. This means that Mr. Shine should be defeated first if the player is aiming to defeat them quickly; if one is aiming for a high score, however, they should focus on defeating Mr. Bright as many times as possible.

If Kirby defeats Mr. Bright four times, the two will eventually merge into one being. This new form can use the attacks of both Mr. Shine and Mr. Bright at a much faster rate and at the same time (minus the solar wave attack), but defeating him will take him out for good.

Kirby: Triple Deluxe[edit]

Mr. Shine & Mr. Bright appear together as a regular Keychain, under their Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land appearance.

Kirby and the Rainbow Curse[edit]

In Kirby and the Rainbow Curse, what appears to be Mr. Bright appears as a cameo in the 19th Secret Diary page, where he is being depicted as sunny in the weather forecast.

Kirby: Planet Robobot[edit]

In Kirby: Planet Robobot, Mr. Shine & Mr. Bright appear separately as two different stickers, each using their artwork from Kirby's Adventure.

Kirby's Dream Buffet[edit]

In Kirby's Dream Buffet, Mr. Shine & Mr. Bright appear separately as two different Character Treats, each using their artwork from Kirby's Adventure.

Kirby Air Riders[edit]

Mr. Bright appears as an obstacle in the Road Trip mode of Kirby Air Riders, showing up at the end of Bone-Dry Run and blocking the way forward with a beam of light. To get past him, the rider has to choose either Simirror or Computer Virus to help out, with the former using mirrors to reflect the beam back at Mr. Bright to make him explode, and the latter blocking the beam with one of its windows. Mr. Shine appears in the background in his generic crescent moon form. Mr. Bright's Road Trip appearance is also depicted on a license icon and sticker.

Non-Kirby games[edit]

Super Smash Bros. series[edit]

Mr. Shine & Mr. Bright appear as a Primary spirit in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. They are a ★★, neutral-type spirit that increases the power of Fire attacks when equiped. The spirit can only be obtained by summoning it with the spirits or cores of Baxter & Forthington and Slugger & Green Glove.

Trivia[edit]

The Kirby: Right Back at Ya! monster known as Slice n' Splice wields two polearms whose blades resemble Mr. Shine & Mr. Bright.
In the Kirby Super Star game mode Milky Way Wishes, the conflict that prompts Kirby to adventure involves the Sun and Moon fighting each-other. These two entities look similar to Mr. Shine & Mr. Bright, particularly when the latter are in the air, but it has never been explicitly stated that the Sun and Moon in Milky Way Wishes are Mr. Shine & Mr. Bright.
