The Dunes is one of the areas of the Dream Kingdom. It appears in both Team Kirby Clash Deluxe and Super Kirby Clash, and is the second area unlocked in both games.

Description

The Dunes are an arid area with generally clear skies. The main action takes place on a rocky, warm-colored plateau raised high in the air. Round cacti in shades of yellow and green can be seen scattered about in the foreground and background. The landscape is dominated by large, fountain-like mushroom rocks from which sand pours out like water. Below them is a wide dune field, fitting the area's name. In the far distance, a canyon with rising hoodoos is visible. During the day, the sky is defined by wispy clouds and a heat distortion effect. At night, a crescent moon becomes visible, the overall palette takes on a cooler appearance, and the cacti feature blooming, glowing flowers.

In both Team Kirby Clash Deluxe and Super Kirby Clash, the Dunes features slightly more difficult quests than the opening area, most notably including the first ordeal in both games (Kracko in the former and Ignite Edge in the latter). Formidable foes can be found later on; floating bosses are a common sight in the Dunes, with Kracko and Greater Doomer appearing here in both games.

The Dunes debuts in Team Kirby Clash Deluxe, being the second area unlocked in the game. It is home to the game's first Ordeal and is unlocked by clearing Colossal Waddle Dee in the Grasslands.

The Dunes returns in Super Kirby Clash, once again as the second area unlocked. It is once again home to the first Ordeal, and is unlocked after clearing Hornhead in the Seaside.

Adaptation appearances

Kirby novel series

The Dunes appears in the Kirby: Super Team Kirby's Big Battle! volume of the Kirby novel series, as the first location Kirby and Doctor Kirby head to to defeat enemies. In the novel, it is said to be a two day walk from Port Village. There they battle Ignite Edge, and although Kirby struggles at first due to having just arrived at the Dream Kingdom again, the two manage to beat it. The area is not directly mentioned in the novel afterwards.
