Etymology

    From Middle High German plānēte, a loanword from Latin planeta, planetes, from Ancient Greek πλανήτης (planḗtēs), a variant of πλάνης (plánēs, wanderer). The German term Wandelstern is a calque of the former.

      Borrowed from German Planet, from Middle High German plānēte, a learned borrowing from Latin planēta, borrowed from Ancient Greek πλανήτης (planḗtēs), from πλανάω (planáō, to wander) + -της (-tēs, masculine agent noun suffix).[1]
