About Nordströmite
Formula:
CuPb3Bi7(Se4S10)
Colour:
Lead-grey
Hardness:
2 - 2½
Specific Gravity:
7.12 (Calculated)
Crystal System:
Monoclinic
Name:
Named in honor of Karl Fredrik Theodor Nordström (31 August 1843, Helsinki, Finland - 30 June 1920, Stockholm Co. Sweden), mining engineer who first studied the sulfosalts from Falun. He worked at the Geological Survey of Sweden, taught at the Stockholm Institute of Technology, and later was governor of Örebro County.
Type Locality:
Forms a homologous series with junoite, felbertalite, and proudite, although the structure of nordströmite is slightly "sheared" compared to these other minerals and therefore least resembles the other members of the junoite homologous series in its structural tiling.
