This article is about the thing that transforms Kirby and Prince Fluff into various forms, and should not be confused with Metamato.

A Metamortex is a vortex-like object that appears in Kirby's Epic Yarn and Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn. Once Kirby (and Prince Fluff) have jumped in, the Metamortex will change them into a variety of special situational transformations.

Metamortexes appear in every stage that involves such a transformation, and will have a different icon in the middle of the vortex depending on what type of transformation it causes. At the end of the stage or section, a Reel Gate is used to return Kirby and Fluff to normal. Unlike Copy Abilities, they will not be lost when damaged.

In the fight against Yin-Yarn, Meta Knight drops a Metamortex for Kirby and Prince Fluff to transform into the Tankbot, in order to counter Yin-Yarn's transformation into Mega Yin-Yarn.

Trivia

• An official promotional website created in Adobe Flash for Kirby's Epic Yarn listed off 9 of the 10 Metamortex transformations. The same site hinted towards more types of Metamortex transformations existing with the sentence "What other types of Metamortex could there be!?" in place of the 10th card. Although the phrasing of this sentence suggested that more than one Metamortex transformation not shown on the promotional website would be revealed in the full release, the only transformation at release that was not shown off on the promotional website was the Star Shooter.
• Several unused transformations (more specifically, the tutorial images) have data remaining in Kirby's Epic Yarn's files, including an underwater Tankbot, a fan, a helicopter, and a hot air balloon.
  • Oddly, these unused Metamortex transformations are located in the folders of existing transformations, rather than their own folders.
