About our graduate certificate
The Rice360 Institute for Global Health Technologies is excited to offer a new graduate-level certificate in Global Health Technologies to any graduate student enrolled at Rice University. This certificate aims to develop students' skills to foster cross-disciplinary collaborations, incorporate global health perspectives into their work area, promote the development and utilization of technological innovations in healthcare globally and allow students to network with world-renowned global health scholars.
In addition to the Global Health Technologies core courses, students must complete 3 credit hours of electives, which can be selected from approved courses across departments. For more information about elective options and credit requirements, please visit the Registrar’s website.
While students may enter the certificate at multiple points, those planning to complete the certificate are strongly encouraged to begin in the fall semester.
Students interested in completing the graduate certificate program can download the Global Health Technologies Certificate checklist and find more information on how to enroll under the Declaring a University Certificate (Graduate Students) section, on the Registrar's Website.
In your email to the Director of Graduate Studies, please include the completed Global Health Technologies Certificate Checklist along with your Declaration and Change of University Certificate Form (GR).
Research Award Opportunities
Students pursuing the graduate certificate in Global Health Technologies are eligible for a research award after successfully completing GLHT 591 Fundamentals of Global Health and Needs Finding. Upon application, if a student is selected to be given this research award, it could be used toward research-related activities such as research-related travel, conference presentations, or research study materials.
In Fall 2026, research award opportunities will be directed to the Global to Local (G2L) Innovation Cohort, to be a vital part of the Innovation for Healthcare Access Conference through co-facilitation of catalytic work groups, submission of collaboratively developed grant proposals, and implementation of seed funded projects. Graduate students in engineering, digital health, business, public health and other relevant disciplines are encouraged to apply.
