In 1826, UCL was founded as London’s very first university. On 11th February – on the same date the deeds for UCL were signed two centuries ago – we marked our 200th anniversary and the beginning of a year of celebration!

Groundbreaking bowel cancer trial follow-up shows zero relapses
Patients with a specific bowel cancer who were given short-course immunotherapy before surgery, instead of post-op chemotherapy, remained cancer-free after nearly three years of follow-up, according to new results from the NEOPRISM-CRC trial led by UCL and UCLH.

Five-year mission maps 47 million galaxies and quasars
The Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI), which involves UCL researchers, has completed its originally planned mission, observing the light from more than 47 million galaxies and quasars, and creating the largest high-resolution 3D map of our universe to date.

A new data transmission speed record of 450 terabits per second using an existing, commercially installed optical fibre link has been set by a team of engineers involving UCL researchers.

Engineered tissue offers hope for babies born with missing food pipe section
Scientists from UCL and Great Ormond Street Hospital have created the first lab grown oesophagus - the food pipe - shown to safely replace a full section of the organ and restore normal function, including swallowing, in a growing animal without the need for immunosuppression.
