You go into brick and mortar stores for the specific purpose of seeing what you can break, and then leave?
It’s a shame that’s a worry, but with how they’ve been killing all the other useful features, I wouldn’t put it past them either.

Books@lemmy.ml•The Death of Washington Post Book World and Why Criticism Still Matters
2·17 days agoApparently, steering the entire industry towards women’s interests by flooding the market with books about fucking animals and mythological beasts doesn’t require any high-level criticism. Whodathunkit? Shoulda seen that one coming, her type of “criticism” is what led us here by only ever recommending women authors. She should have realized long ago that there’s no need to criticize works when you might accidentally reveal it’s all slop geared towards the lowest common denominator, which is why reviews of any type are a rare find in the written word these days; they actively harm sales.
Shocker, this idiot can’t help herself, even after losing her job, with this joke of an interview going on about incels and looksmaxers, yet another woman obsessed with sex. Even as reality rears its ugly head, this woman who helped destroy the very industry she worked in just keeps on going down the same pathetic path. Congrats, you turned the book industry into a porn industry for women, and guess what, porn doesn’t require a review, you already know what you are getting.
Boox and Kobo are more my speed, along with Supernote and reMarkable. Plenty of e-readers to choose from, though it is sad to see devices like the Kindle Keyboard slowly killed to the point it is now only a reader for sideloaded content.

7·1 month agoY’all do know Kagi is literally using AI to rewrite the news, right? Not only the headline, the entire body too. https://news.kagi.com/world/latest
If you think Kagi of all places is gonna be safe from AI, think again. They are all in on the AI hype train. They might not be selling your data (yet), but best believe you’re paying them to train their AI.

22·2 months agoWhy stop there when you could boycott all American inventions. Course that would mean getting off the internet, throwing out your smartphone, getting rid of your car, and not flying anywhere ever. Show that true Canadian frontiersmen spirit and go move to the fucking woods and live in a log cabin without power, cause we invented that shit too.
Or, you know, get a fucking grip and learn to take a joke.

2·3 months agoI mean, this is a procedurally generated dungeon crawler, running on the Game Boy Color. It’s literally a demake of an isometric 16-bit game now in 2-D 8-bit. If you can think of a better roguelike on GBC, I’d love to hear it.

Neglected Pixels? Lol, truth is they were always poorly made midrange phones sold at high end prices. Google has never made good hardware, not even accidentally.

Nintendo@lemmy.world•The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Anniversary Edition – Launch Trailer – Nintendo Switch 2English
6·5 months ago30fps, still no mods, still buggy as all fuck without any means to fix those bugs, and now with horrible input lag added on top.
Started a new game, the dragon wouldn’t break the wall in the tower at the very start. Had to start again from an auto save made after character creation. Even the second time the dragon barely broke the wall to get out of the tower.
They may have touched up a few things for Switch 2, it’s hard to tell, but so far it seems like they added 1080p support to the Switch 1 version and called it a day. How the fuck aren’t mods supported for Switch 2, does this mean Fallout won’t have any either?
And yeah, this was never gonna play at 60fps at 1080p. Even the ROG Ally X can’t hold the game at a stable 60 at 1080. Bethesda would have to optimize the game, and clearly that ain’t happening. The horrendous input lag clearly shows nobody tested this shit.
Lol, the suffering too, huh. That’s adorable.
Lol, it’ll totally work this time around, pinkie promise.

Nothing new for Amazon. You should see what they did to everyone’s Comixology collections. I spent good money purposely buying manga from Comixology as they were the only store with high-res copies. Guess who replaced all those books with low-res copies when they shuttered the Comixology servers.
