homeassistant@lemmy.world•Experience or opinions of Music Assistant?English
4·7 days agoDid you run into any issues while connecting jellyfin? For me it does see the music stored on jellyfin, but when trying to start it it gives an error.
I get that this post is a bit of a satirical question, but as a serious answer to the question. I think it’s because for a lot of people it is impossible (or feels impossible) to not consume fossil fuel products. If we then label it as bad then we feel like we are thus the bad guy while we feel powerless to not be that.
Basically people are forced to be something they don’t want to be thus to cope they make it their personality because that gives a sense of control over choices we really do not have a say in.
AvocadoSandwich@eviltoast.orgtoFacepalm@lemmy.world•It was so pretty before! (Birmingham Central Library)
2·8 days agoI agree although I understand that there might be a place for the style. The style itself is inherently alienating and rejecting of life so as a building style it is in my opinion best suited for places that want to keep people away or at least want to signal that it is not a place to live. Using it for a library then is an odd choice.

Fuck AI@lemmy.world•Everyone with wealth and power has been eyeing their incremental rollout with intense interest while trying to play it cool.
2·8 days agoThat would also require sufficient computing hardware to actually run those AIs. Otherwise you have already ran a circle around it before it decides to shoot in your general direction.
So maybe see this as a high stakes gaming computer delivery program :D

7·8 days agoThose sound like long term problems! We all know powerfull individuals (especially politicians) are incapable of thinking longterm.
Maybe we aren’t the first, maybe we aren’t the last. What if there is other intelligent life on other planets, but just because of the distance their signals have not managed to come to us and our signals haven’t managed to get to them yet. That should be fairly possible simply because of the how big the universe is right?

Solarpunk@slrpnk.net•‘The danger and value of water are in my blood’: how rain fences are making Dutch homes more climate resilient
10·22 days agoPretty much al water in te Netherlands eventually flows out to sea. The problem the country is experiencing is that during periods of heavy rainfall the rivers are already at capacity because of water that comes from upstream so they can’t pump all excess rainwater from the polders into the rivers. If you can temporarily store all that rainwater in the polder (by using wadi’s or infiltration systems and letting it slowly dissipate into the groundwater) instead of immediately funneling it into sewers and into the rivers you can lower the peak excess by spreading it out over a longer duration into moments where the rivers do have the capacity.

AvocadoSandwich@eviltoast.orgtoPositive News@lemmy.ca•Gen Z has the highest rate of veganism in history and it's reshaping the food industry
2·4 months agoAlthough the article talks specifically about Americans, I wouldn’t be surprised if the figures for Western Europe show even more vegans. Home cooking is the standard, meat isn’t subsidized and eating less or no meat at all can save double digit percentages on your grocery bill. I’m barely eating meat myself because of the price. I only use it when it adds a lot to a dish or to get the vitamins only found in animal products.

Opensource•TIL: There is an open source "Alexa replacement" project
1·5 months agoJust curious as I couldn’t find an answer on my questions on their website. Is this supposed to be an alternative for for example the Home Assistant voice assistant? If so, then currently the Home Assistant platform seems more multifunctional, but I’m probably missing something as their website does say they want to use it for automation and such.
We have a connoisseur I see!

Fuck Cars@lemmy.world• Americans are afraid of transit crime. Part of the negative image around public transit comes from the idea that it is dangerousEnglish
1·6 months agoThe small problem with statistics is that you need the story of how the statistic was created to have it say anything sensible. Without the story a graph is just a pretty picture with which you can make people believe anything. What you need as an addition is a written in law way of how the statics are calculated.
Just making statistics a prerequisite for making a decision will prompt those in power to make the numbers look in their favour.

Sooo… Currently unstable regions get a bit less unstable and stable regions get to become unstable? I guess we would be nicely averaging out then. Is this us government communist after all? Equality for all, but not the equality anyone desired! :(
