[edit]Etymology
[edit]From South Slavic; cf. Macedonian еж (ež), Serbo-Croatian је̑ж (jȇž).[1][2] Alternatively, variant eshk would be more conservative, from Proto-Albanian *etska, with devoicing from *edz-k-a, from Proto-Indo-European *h₁eǵʰis; cognate with Ancient Greek ἐχῖνος (ekhînos), Macedonian еж (ež), German Igel, Lithuanian ežỹs.[3]
Noun
[edit]esh m (plural eshë, definite eshi, definite plural eshët)
