[Adopted 12-10-2025 by Ord. No. 5925]
A.
Property owners who are residents of the property and are over 65 years old may apply for a City property tax rebate. Applications will be available on September 1 each year and must be submitted to the City of Easton Department of Finance by October 31 of the year prior to which the rebate will be applied.
B.
All applicants must be current on all taxes and fees owed to the City to qualify for a rebate.
C.
Applicants are eligible for one property tax rebate per family unit per year.
D.
Each year, the City will calculate the total savings from reduced fuel consumption in the fleet of hybrid police patrol cars and establish a total dollar amount that is placed in the pool for senior citizen property tax rebate.
E.
The total savings calculated will be divided by the total number of qualified applicants for a property tax rebate to determine the amount of the rebate to be applied to each property tax bill of the qualified applicant.
F.
The rebate cannot exceed the total City property tax liability.
G.
If the rebate exceeds the total tax liability, the excess will be carried over to the following year's senior citizen property tax rebate pool.
H.
Any funds that remain following disbursement to qualified applicants will be carried over to the following year's senior citizen property tax rebate pool.
I.
Rebates will be applied to the City of Easton property tax bill prior to the bill being mailed.
J.
An application must be made each year in the application period prior to October 31 to qualify for the annual rebate.
