What is Bandwagon.fm?

Bandwagon is the open social app for indie musicians and bands, giving you a trustworthy place to put your music online.

It is the alternative to big centralized servers where you don’t always fit in. Anyone can run their own Bandwagon server and share their music on a site they control. This server (Bandwagon.fm) is the flagship domain for the Bandwagon project; the first of many that we hope will join us in the near future.

What Is The Fediverse?

If you’re not familiar with the name “Fediverse” – that’s okay. It is is an open society of web services that is already serving millions of people all around the world. They do this through a common language called ActivityPub that lets news and events flow from one site to the next. So, instead of checking in to five or six different corporate sites, you can find, follow, like, and share across many, many sources – all from your own, singluar Fediverse profile.

Paid/Premium Plans in 2026

In early 2026, we will roll out a premium version of Bandwagon.fm. The details are still being worked out, but we are committed to maintaining a free version of the current website, though perhaps with some reduced features or functionality.

Premium sites will only release AFTER we have a migration tool that lets you port your Bandwagon.fm profile to any server you want. So, you’ll never be locked in to paying for this server if you’d rather host your music somewhere else.

Pricing Plans

When you sign up on Bandwagon.fm the beta, you get all every feature, unlimited. It’s free because you’re helping us to fine tune the software we’re making. While our plans are still evolving, here’s a glimpse of what we’re planning for some time later in 2025.

Free Forever

We are committed to making some version of the current Bandwagon.fm service free forever. The details still need to be worked out. And, it’s likely that some current features will be require some kind of payment to use. But we will make sure there is always a way for musicians to publish their music for free on the Fediverse and beyond.

Paid/Premium Services

Our current plan is to roll out some form of paid/premium services in 2025. The details are still being worked out, but will be posted here once they come into focus.

One of the fundamental goals of the Bandwagon project is to create an ethical, conscious, and sustainable ecosystem for musicians. A key part of this commitment will be publishing export tools so that anyone who starts an account here will be able to migrate their data to any other Bandwagon server that they want to, after we graduate from “beta test.”

Any premium pricing will be introduced after the import/export tools go live. So, Bandwagon will remain free for everyone until you’ve gotten a chance to self-host, join a co-op, or migrate all of your profile data to any other server you want.
