Name:
Named after Johann Christoph Ullmann (3 September 1771, Kassel - 6 August 1821, Marburg), German mineralogist and chemist. He studied at the Freiberg Mining Academy in Saxony in 1790 and received his doctorate in Marburg in 1792. From 1793 to 1797 he was an associate professor of philosophy and finance at the University of Marburg and finally became a full professor of political science and mining and metallurgy as well as a member of the State Economics Institute.
He was the first professor of this subject in Marburg who was trained in the Freiberg Mining Academy under Abraham Gottlob Werner.
From 1795, Johann Christoph Ullmann took over the care of the “Hessian Mineral Cabinet” at the Princely Hessian University of Marburg (today the Mineralogical Museum of the Philipps University of Marburg), which was set up in 1790 by Johann Gottlieb Waldin (1728–1795). He died as Oberbergrat in Marburg.
