Mario's castle,[1][2] also known as Mario Castle,[3] is a location that appears only in Super Mario Land 2 - 6 Golden Coins. It is a white castle that is owned by Mario, symbolized by the big M on it, and is located atop a mountain in the center of Mario Land.

During Mario's journey in Sarasaland, the castle was taken over by Mario's rival, Wario, who used magic to transform it into "Wario's Castle", turning it into a dark fortress with the M flipped upside down to resemble a W instead, symbolizing his takeover. The only way to enter the castle is by gathering the Six Golden Coins, which are guarded by enemies. When Mario defeats Wario, the spell is broken and the castle returns to normal, turning white instead of black, with the W flipped back into its correct position to resemble an M.

In later games, such as Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, the Mario Bros.' House replaced the castle as Mario's place of residence in the Mushroom Kingdom. In Mario Party 8, on the board Koopa's Tycoon Town, if the player gets a three-Star Hotel after trading coins with a Koopa Troopa at a Hotel, the Hotel looks like Mario's castle.
