The Bonus Game is the Goal Game played at the end of every regular stage in Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards, where Kirby can select different prizes as rewards for completing the level. The game takes the form of a picnic held by the main members of Kirby's Crystal Shard-hunting team. All of Kirby's sidekicks are present, each eating a different food: Adeleine is eating a sandwich, King Dedede is munching on a chicken wing, and Waddle Dee is chowing down on a simple rice ball.

When Kirby reaches the Bonus Game, he must jump from the edge of the picnic blanket to the certain item in question in order to obtain it. The trajectory is determined in two steps: first, the player must stop Kirby while he is turning to establish the direction, and then the distance is chosen based on how far back Kirby swings his arms, much like in the Goal Game of Kirby's Dream Land 3. In the case that Kirby does not land on any item, he begins to humorously cry. Once the Bonus Game is finished, the scene fades to black.

Rewards

While his partners eat the same thing regardless of stage or picnic location, the selection of items available for obtainment on Kirby's part consistently changes.

Stars

Main article: Point Star

There are three different types of Point Stars provided at the picnic, all of which Kirby can try to obtain to fill the 30 Star thresold for an extra life: the standard Yellow Star (with a value of one Star), the Green Star (with a value of 3 standard Stars), and the Red Star (with a value of 5 standard Stars). These three Star variations are consistently obtainable at all bonus games. In addition, the Bonus Game is the only place in Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards where green and red stars can be obtained.

Food

Like in the regular stages of Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards, food serves as a source of sustenance, allowing Kirby to regain health. While the food selection ranges from dessert-like cakes and ice cream to meat and sandwiches (an onigiri in the Japanese version), regardless of the type of nourishment, all food restores one of Kirby's health points.

The Maxim Tomato, however, is a bit different, as it completely restores Kirby's health. This item is also a permanent picnic option.

1-Up

This item provides Kirby with an extra life, making it a more valuable target than the point stars. The 1-Up is also one of the permanent items of the picnic.

Enemy Info Card

The Enemy Info Card is a collectable item which cannot be obtained in any other way. Although these cards do not have any plot significance or practical benefit (and do not contribute towards 100% completion of the game), they operate as a function of their collectible value; nearly every enemy (and boss) has a respective identification card that can be obtained and collected. These cards provide names for most of the enemies and bosses encountered in the game which cannot be encountered by simply playing, and thus provide a more educational value.

There is a chance that Kirby gets an enemy card he already has in his collection, in which case he will adopt a disappointed expression and a different jingle will play. When every Enemy Info Card has been collected, they will stop appearing at the Bonus Game, leaving the picnic with one reward less.
