The Forgotten Man is a character in EarthBound Beginnings. He blocks the exit to the Magicant Underground, complaining about how his life is meaningless. If Ninten chooses to forget about him, he will disappear. A resident of Magicant informs Ninten of a man who was forgotten by everyone, implying that he was once well-known in Magicant.

In the Japanese version of Mother, if Ninten answers his questions incorrectly, he will be warped back at the entrance of the Magicant Underground.

The forgotten man’s dialogue spans multiple attenpts to talk to him. If the player doesn’t give the answers he wants his monologue restarts. The correct answers are bolded.

1st Time

• I am a man who does not exist. You talk so kindly, I don’t know what to do. If I miss people, I cannot live alone anymore.

2nd Time

• My conversation is always a monologue. I’ve been alone since the moment I was born...

3rd Time

• Lucky, unlucky... It makes no difference to me. Sometimes, even breathing becomes too much.

4th Time

• Why do you insist on talking to me? Are you a forgotten man, too? >Yes Don’t give me that garbage. Just leave me alone. >No That’s right. That is right, right?
