Reddit is truly moltbook now

Core DND magic Resistance is just advantage on saves. I'm trying to find a way to have really epic spells fail in the face of a stubborn barbarian.

Subclass would be a good way to do this, I agree! Although I'd want more features from Karsa Orlong for that 😛

Karsa Orlong Magic Resistance Feat - an attempt to capture the glory of the Malazan character

I've been reading the Malazan Book of the Fallen series this year and I love the idea of Karsa Orlong the barbarian confounding mages as the magic just melts before hitting him. I am trying to imagine how this would work as a 5e or OneDnd feat.

The problem with most magic resistance features in 5e today is they're just not the right flavor to match Karsa Orlong. But the flipside is you don't want to create something unbalanced.

I was inspired by how the Ioun Stone of Resistance works:

  1. Any spell below 4th level is cancelled

  2. You have to use your reaction

So I'm taking a stab at a more volatile version of this feat that would create fun moments at the table. Looking for feedback on how it would play out and how to make it ludicrously fun without being too powerful

I'm imagining this is either an origin feat or an epic boon. The scaling stuff would obviously only apply for the origin feat unless the boon was granted by a DM at an earlier level

Here's the attempt:

Karsa Orlong Magic Resistance

Prerequisite: no levels in a spellcasting class. If you gain levels in a spellcasting class you lose the effects of this feat (your DM may allow you to replace the feat).

You have consumed blood oil for many years, granting your body an innate magic resistance. Mages are astounded as magic simply melts on contact with your skin.

Whenever you are subject to the effects of a spell, you may take a Reaction to roll 1d8. If the level of the spell is less than or equal to the number you rolled, the spell has no effect on you.

At 5th level you may roll 2d8 and take the higher number. In addition, the protection extends to anything you are wearing or carrying.

At 11th level you may roll 3d8 and take the highest number. In addition, the protection extends to within 5 feet of you.

At 17th level you may roll 4d8 and take the highest number. In addition, the protection extends to within 10 feet of you. If you have heroic inspiration, you may spend it to cancel the effects of the spell entirely.

Yes, I was experiencing this as well. I saw two issues

The first was when I opened the game. I fixed that by not using the steam client but manually running the game in terminal. However, as of 0.9.4 that came out today it works through steam again.

The second was when I entered the world, but occasionally I was able to play for a bit before crashing. I eventually realized I was crashing any time I was in proximity with another player. Makes it possible to play but only "socially distanced". Works for me server of 4 people but in I'm hoping it's fixed soon. I wrote up my observations here https://github.com/StrangeLoopGames/EcoIssues/issues/22682

Haven't tested if this is fixed in 0.9.4 yet

I think this is a great question without an easy answer. I think both approaches would be valid, and it depends on your app. If I were to take a stab at what might work well for you, I hear that you're worried about having too many action creators, so what about:

  1. start with a catch all edit action

  2. add more specific actions if you find you're repeating yourself too much on some common edit operations

Yes, that's correct. PHB p190 "Moving between attacks" section.

It could be equity: http://www.ritholtz.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/FT-Corp-cash.png. And im having teouble wrappibg my.mind around central bank bond holding and its effect on cash availability, but i think it could end up stored there if Boss has savings in bonds or cash deposits.
