My research interest has always been in digital engineering and bringing digital transformation to the design, construction and operation of infrastructure. As a third-generation INL engineer born and raised in southeast Idaho, the laboratory is a family business in a way. But it’s much more than that. It’s a place where engineering and application drive science and research. There have been a lot of test reactors here over the years, but the workhorses that have endured through the decades are the material test reactors, such as INL’s Advanced Test Reactor and Transient Reactor Test Facility. Designing and overseeing experiments in these reactors has put me right at the heart of INL’s enduring mission.

Idaho attracted me to INL as a Nuclear Navy student in 1985. It’s a great place for outdoor activities and raising a family. I left the Navy to start a job here in 1989. Working at the Advanced Test Reactor – a one-of-a-kind, world-class facility – has been the most rewarding part of my job. We do amazing things every day, and every day brings new challenges and rewards for working with a high-quality team.
