engraving tattoo designs, no shading
Is graphic design for those with artistic talent, or can it be learned and improved on with practice? I work in publishing chasing writers, copyediting and laying out books in InDesign but since I began doing this for my company’s magazines I’ve fallen in love with them. I want to be part of the design for the magazines and pivot away from the editorial/production side of the business but I fear I have no artistic talent and it would just be a waste of time.I know what I like and don’t like but is that plus practice enough? Must you have that natural artistic talent to succeed in designing books and magazines? I guess this could be generally discussed about graphic design as a whole, too. Did any of you suck at drawing/handwriting but now can make beautiful designs?
>>464734no, they mean I openly enjoy being an annoying cunt when others are being one as well ;)
>>464735yeah, not really into your choice of modes.i politely said i didnt agree with you, regarding your intro premisethen i politely and briefly noted other disagreements in each of your items. youre welcome to address them specifically, per having an actual dialogue vs whatever you are doing presently.just because there are blind people doesnt mean painters shouldnt paint and advocate for its potential and power.but yes, i was not considering the widest net and broadest set of environmental and informational design. its great to see some tactile design. all for it. that you need to turn to the tactile as a general counterargument to me tho is kinda the point. people do semiotics, do signs, do models for hands, but are ignorant of straight visual art. thats all ive got to say. enjoy your game theory.id love to design some tactile environmental guides and some artworks. and then I would be advocating for the tactile, as opposed to semiotics, or signs, or game theory. et al.you do you :D
>>464736>painters shouldn't paintwho tf said something like that? arguing that gd *can be defined* in a way that precedes existence of the visual somehow makes me deny vision to be an important modality for communication?? :Dyou are telling me that the object in the expo picrel is NOT also graphic design (even when you disregard the purely visual features like color)? by your understanding knowledge about layout, hierarchy, structure are NOT coming from the *study and practice of gd*?! lofl>other disagreements1) I define vision as being a whole quarter of what makes the aristotelian framework (namely the material cause)2) correct, the *signified* is NOT visual, but tends to be delivered through mostly visual *signifiers*3) not to mention I even stated "both encoded through the same visual means" in that exact definition, my bruv>ignorant of straight visual art. thats all ive got to say. who is ignorant of straight visual art? they even made the board-for-blind-people visually appealing as to not pollute the space for those with a pair of working eyes.(?)we do us ;)
>>464737>a whole quarterthats a joke, right?>signifiers dont matter. the difference between them matters. they can be ghastly and ugly and whatever the fuck. irrelevant. signifiers dont rely on positive visual qualities, just differences.again, the weird turn to your "board"you do you, you aint us. its ok.
>>464739yes. a quarter.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Four_causes>signifiersexactly. for that reason new trends and fashions tend to start out as something "ugly", until their signified shapes into something that is considered desirable, retroactively turning the ugly attractive...>continuously weird turnand *conveniently* you continue trying to avoid actively interacting with itwell, I gladly do me instead of us! :)
It is popular opinion that the guitar in the middle is uglier than the other two. Other than the birds on the fretboard, how would you fix it?
I would just get the les Paul instead
concerns?
>>462887>human centipede artbased
>>462887I agree with what you said, but let me ask you this; let's say you dont't work for a firm or a client, what message or idea would you try to convey if you're making a poster for yourself for example?
i have no idea what i'm looking at. i like it.
>>464412idk? anything that is not just buzz words?
>>462887But.. anon...Consider that making BAD art is necessary to learn what is good art.I'm not a designer, but by making a lot of shit-tier designs I can now do acceptable level things (mostly TTRPG custom character shit) for my hobby. But in order to raise my head above the water, I trodded over shit for a long time. I made lot of shit, I learned. The tragedy is looking at your horrible creation and thinking it's good enough. If you grow some GD-sense, being able to judge yourself and learn is really useful, even when the outcome is shit. You gotta learn.
Hello, I'm making a card game, I can kinda draw but I can't into graphic design, can you give me some pointers for designing a frames for the card? Specifically a frame that fits with the art I made, which I'll post nextI won't go into the rules, but the information that needs to be displayed is:Card nameA number of maximum slots (think of it as equipment slots, stronger cards have more slots, going from 1 to 4)Two separate text boxes (if you are familiar with Digimon TCG, something like that)Power rating (single digit number)Pic rel is my attempt but I was told it clashes with the art
Art so far 1/2
Art so far 2/2
>>464499just use pokemon full art card as inspiration, like thefont, text outline and text placement
>>464499What anon said. GRab a card game that fits you (I'd choose Magic) and shamelessly copy its structure. Modify if needed, but start from there. It is easier for you, your friends to understand and is good sign that so many room temperature IQ brats can understand it well enough to play with them.
>>464499>>464728>GRab a card game that fits you (I'd choose Magic)
Is there a way or settings to make docker in a fixed position? every startup my corel would rearrange my docker like pic rel
this is the ideal docker position for me
>>464724close all that shit and open it when you need it bro
Hi everyone, I recently started doing illuminated texts and I'm having a hard time with gouache and just being generally skilless. Is there any program out there mimicking aquarelle painting enough that it can help you practice? Rebelle? Krita? Corel painter? Using the new wacom intuosThank you
Get some calligraphy samples and clipart from the internet, lay paper on your screen and lightly trace it, then try your gouache to create the shspe, most likely you aren't using any water on your brush, use moist sponge and rinsing jar, swish brush to wet it, wipe backwards on sponge to remove excess, get paint on tip of brush and wipe again to thin and remove clumps, now paint, thrn rinse in jar, repeat, never let brush dry unless it's clean, whole time moist, thin the gouche as needed, use damp tracing paper on moist sponge as wet palette for thinning paint and mixing colors, watch miniature figure painters a lot to learn how to handle the brush and use every kind of deather and metal quill pen or calligraphy pen you can to practice, remember to rule out your lines or use a lightbox with lined paper behind your sheet to follow along. Digital pens don't really work like real pens or brushes and won't help much, it's a separate skill. Use egg washes and acrlic mediums to slow drying time of paint or for thinning in a more fluid way than just with water alone. It's all about controlling the moisture level. I'd recommend painting larger than you'd think. Moist manuscripts are pretty large and small flaw in measurements on large scale isn't a big deal, on small scale looks horrible, so practice bigger rather than smaller. Characters should be about thumbnail size for reference. Usually five to seven nibs tall when using a calligraphy pen and basically square in ratio as though made of lead or a wood block. Think of the spacing of the whole word as a horizontal block instead of as a single letter at a time, that will give you handsome easy to read text.
>>464694kek if monks could TLDR OH GOD MY EYES
>>464608Prograns can mimic watercolor yes, in the sense that you will hold the pen and move it like a brush and the computer will approximate what would then happen irl (I have rebelle and can confirm) But YOUR particular situation is such that it will not help you ONE BIT. Your attitude is a big problem as well, you're like one of those idiots that cant be bothered to pick up a pencil and then claim to use ai because art was "gatekept" by artists (??lmao) If you put pencil to paper and sometimes watercolor to paper for a couple weeks you'd improve much more than if you pretended to do so on a screen for the next year(or until you lose interest in the mirace software that didnt teach you by itself).
>creating a traditional type of media digitallygross. try switching to india ink and getting gud. your digital crap will only be good for practice.
ai generated photos just look like the idea of a photo rather than a photo, like everything is slightly too resolved, no weird shadow from a bad angle, no moment where the light was almost right but not quite, just everything exactly where you'd want it which is how you know nobody was actually there, and the design ones especially have this quality where every surface is perfect and the coffee cup is always at the right distance from the laptop and the plant is never dying, and at first glance it reads as aspirational but after a second it just reads as empty, and i think what's missing is resistance, like real photos have stuff in them that wasn't planned and that unplanned stuff is actually most of what makes an image feel like it came from the world, and these don't have any of that, they came from an average of the world which is a completely different thing.
>>464704Yes, an approximation. That's all computer generated images should be. The idea of what you told it to make. It isn't photography, it isn't human made art. It is simply a computation of information. I love it for that, and don't see it as anything more than that.
>>464720haha what is the point?nobody thinks AI equals photography.and nobody thinks it's human made art.everybody agrees that its outcomes simply come incredibly close to these things, so that many expect the (previously) manual effort to just not really be worth it anymore from now on. >people are wearing mass produced nike shoes, even when their value and quality is so obviously inferior to that of its predecessor, the tailor made leather boot (or even to that of a sufficiently trained bare foot, for that matter)

Lost your job to AI yet?
>>464686>>464678You guys are retarded. The rich can just build walls like they do in Brazil. The poor would get their ass kicked if they hopped to the other side.
>>464678The simpler question is, if everyone is unemployed and homeless, who's going to consume things? These techbro billionaires make it sound like it's a good thing if AI and robots take all of our jobs and I would agree if it ment that all our basic needs are covered by the government and we can frolic in the fields and follow artistic passions all day, but I think that sounds too much like communism to the people in charge
>>464699>simpler questionaren't you asking the exact same one??
>>464699>The simpler question is, if everyone is unemployed and homeless, who's going to consume things? No homeless person buys a fucking Lamborghini dude. And they're still in business. The market will correct itself. Items are priced for the rich and no one else.
>>464658My Illustration degree- useless already now double useless
This is just AI slop, gonna head over to /wsr/ eventually but wanted to see that you guys thought. I live in Colorado and was out hiking with my wife and thought about it one day and here we are.
>>464419Here's another one I liked, good disruptive from a distance and looks pretty sweet up close
This is a photo (one of many at least) I took while out hiking that in basing this on. I can post more if need be. Just moreso trying to get some feedback and ideas if anyone wants to mess around with it or has any tools that would be useful trying to create a camp pattern, that would be awesome
>>464419Nice job; I've wanted to do something like this. Are you going to sew something with the pattern? It's pretty cool to see the palette directly taken from a photo of the intended landscpe
yo post more
Does anyone happen to know what font this is? None of the font finders told me. I was hoping the weird zero and "O" could identify it.

how do I do the layout to paint an AK like the one from this purge movie?
"A rotten parasite using a mere shell of a familiar face. Always subjecting poor souls to its seven trials, with aggressive entities based on the Baldi cast. Dying or playing sluggishly will cause your soul to be erased out of his 'perfect' world."(This character is for an upcoming retake of a creepypasta named Baldi's Hellscape.
