By It is said that unity is strength and no man is an island. It is however ironical that one island strongly believes the opposite going by the recent actions of its citizens. On the 23rd of June Britain voted to leave the EU.Some analysts argue that Britain was never fully in EU to begin with. Majority of British citizen see the EU as a luxury they can do without. The fact is 52% of voters in Britain voted to exit the EU.Many economists have argued that this will have a negative impact on Britain’s economy. FACT. However there are some notable positives we can pick from Brexit fiasco, both for the Brits and the world. We don’t have to throw the baby with the bathwater. Talk about looking at the glass half full instead of half empty. Risks are there to be taken and someone has to take them. EXPENDITURE The British contributed 8.5 billion pounds to the EU in 2015.Exiting the EU will mean this substantial amount of money will be channeled into other internal projects which will directly benefit its citizens. TRADE Although not an obvious issue trade agreements is definitely top on the agenda. By choosing to leave the EU, Britain will be taking control of its trade policies. It will be able to set her own terms and broker her own trade agreements to suit her interests. INVESTMENT. Investors will flock into Britain contrary to what other experts think. Brexit has created uncertainty in the EU.Other countries might follow suit and choose to leave. This kind of uncertainty is not good for prospective investors. The British economy is relatively strong despite this exit and many investors might choose to relocate to a stable Britain than an unstable EU. FDI [Foreign direct investment] will keep flowing because Britain is still an attractive investment market. It enjoys a sober political climate, has advanced technology and infrastructure among other economic advantages. SOVEREIGNTY The exit campaigners want their sovereignty. Simply put the British want to control their own affairs. There is the general feeling that the EU has drained powers from the British parliament by putting business interests ahead of people. Although exiting the EU does not make the British more sovereign ,it will give her a louder voice as a country since it is still very influential in world bodies like the UN[united nations],NATO[North Atlantic trade organization] and WTO[World trade organization. This will augment Britain as a world super power. IMMIGRATION. Britain wants to be control of immigrants entering the country by having in place its own immigration laws. Currently any foreigner can live and work in Britain. This has resulted in scarcity of jobs, insecurity and put a strain on provision of basic goods and services not to mention cultural attrition. The British citizens feel threatened by outsiders and feel they are better off setting the rules of the game to control who comes in and who stays out. JOB CREATION. This is the area where the citizens will feel the most impact . With a limited number of foreigners coming into Britain there will be more jobs for locals, there will be scarcity of workers despite demand being higher, as a result companies will increase wages in order to attract and keep workers. SECURITY. Britain will be in charge of its boarders and will control all its entry points. Information and intelligence will still be shared with Britain even if she is no longer a member of EU.This will enhance her effort in curbing terrorism, extremism and cross border crime. IMPACT ON AFRICA. Brexit will no doubt have an impact on Africa especially if the UK slides into recession. Amidst all this negativity about Brexit there is some notable benefits that Africa as a continent stands to gain. TRADE. Trade between the UK and Africa is not much. According to the office of national statistics [UK], in 2014 exports from Africa accounted for 5% only. Africa is more worried about slow growth in China which is its biggest trading partner. The UK does not have significant influence on AFRICA as it did before. This is according Grieve Chelwa of Zambia, an Economic analyst in Harvard. He stresses that if the UK were to sneeze Africa will no longer catch a cold. New trade agreements between the UK and Africa will have to be re-negotiated. This might take longer but presents Africa with an opportunity to re-negotiate on new trade deals which will favor her in the long run. According to Miriama Sow of research Africa group initiative, the UK has been against common Agricultural policy [CAP] by the EU which offers subsidies to EU farmers. 60 percent of the workforce in Africa relies on agriculture; therefore this policy leaves them at a disadvantage. With the UK leaving the EU this will provide an array of hope for African farmers as they will trade in a fair UK market. INVESTMENTS. Firms planning to relocate or invest in the UK or the EU will think twice due to the uncertainty that Brexit has caused economically. This will provide a windfall for African economies as firms will relocate to stable African economies like Southern Africa, East Africa and West Africa. UK firms can move to southern Africa who recently signed an economic partnership agreement with the EU.This will enable the firms to gain access to the EU markets. This will create employment opportunities for Africans and improve its economic situation. IMMIGRATION. The UK is likely to set less stringent laws to commonwealth countries in Africa as far as movement and admission of people is concerned. This occurrence will greatly benefit Africa as its citizens will get access to jobs and training opportunities in the UK, which will have a long term benefit to the continent. Most of what has been said and written in different quarters in regards to Brexit might be negative. Nevertheless, Africa and Britain stands to gain in the long run if they can weather the storm and maintain a sober economic mind. This will not only assist them navigate through this turbulent period but it will also help the two to remain focused. Calestuos Juma, professor of the practice of international development at Harvard’s Kennedy school of government sums up this argument by saying that, “ post-Brexit forecasts of doom and gloom for Africa’s export driven economies miss a fundamental fact; these economies will soon be relying far less on commodity exports.” He concludes by saying that, “When Africa’s potential for innovation and entrepreneurship is taken into account, long term perspectives indicate a much brighter picture. …ENDS…
BREXIT LESSONS….

ITS OUR TIME TO EAT…
The political re-alignments going on in the country is not surprising especially with elections around the corner. Politricians are in panic mode.
If you have never seen or asked for anything from your area leader, well now is the time you moved in for the kill, and well take a huge bite it is your money anyway. The fellow has been pocketing allowances for doing nothing at your expense not to mention the wanton looting and bad mouthing you in the process. Its about time you show him who is boss.
We been exposed to politics of divide and rule, tribalism, cronyism and violence by our beloved politricians for far too long. Its time we stand up against this vice by taking our leaders to task, question their manifestos, that is if they have any and subject them to ruthless vetting that would make the AMERICAN presidential nomination process look like a child’s play.
For those who are lucky enough to go through we should demand from them a strategic plan for the next five years, this should be in his or her own handwriting to curb cheating and plagiarism[read melanie trump].
You might think am high on tea leaves and being out of touch with reality.but baibe am dead serious because i strongly believe that the Kenyan electorate has been schooled enough on matters integrity, corruption and elective politics therefore more than capable to separate the wheat from the chaff.
I will be as brief as a cock and leave my argument there for your digestin for now, as one wise man said, once you ve made your point shut up …therefore i oblige.nice weekend.
SPOILS OF WAR
Beres hammond a Jamaican reggea artist has a popular line in one of his songs. It says war has no winner. When a war is over and the smoke clears the loosing side start counting their looses while the perceived winner will be left licking their wounds and thanking their Gods.
Come to think of it the statement makes sense. In Africa wars have left death and destruction in many countries most notably is the constant problem of refugees.Tribal conflicts, power struggles among many other reasons have been forwarded by many political commentators as the genesis of wars in Africa. This is debatable and is a story for another day.
What is clear like the tea in the cup of a young boy in a camp somewhere in Kakuma,it obviously has no milk. A fact is that this wars are costing the continent a fortune.
It is said when two elephants are fighting it is the grass that suffers, while the common man bears the brunt of this senseless wars, the opposing factions are sipping french Champagne in first class Hotels in the name of peace talks.Their kids are tucked away in Top European academies studying topics like the cause wars in Africa while they know very well it is their father or mother who is responsible.
Wars leave behind broken relationships, bruised egos, tattered economies not to mention diseases and poverty. Those who think they benefit from war suffer from guilt and regret on top of being haunted by the souls of those they tormented.
Before picking up a fight with anyone think of the long time effects and whether you can live with them because truly war has no winner but casualties on both sides.
