Developer Addendum

In the most recent update, the “API License Addendum” was renamed the “Developer Addendum.”

Last Updated: March 9, 2026

This Vimeo Developer Addendum is a part of Vimeo's Terms of Service and governs your use of Vimeo's developer interfaces, including all application programming interfaces, Model Context Protocol servers, embeddable video players, software development kits, command-line tools, event streams, webhooks, endpoints, and any related documentation, code, or other materials made available by Vimeo (collectively, the “Developer Interfaces”).

By accessing or using any Developer Interface, you agree to be bound by this addendum and the Terms of Service.

1. Eligibility

To use the Developer Interfaces, you must maintain an eligible account in good standing. We may require additional registration, verification, or approval before granting or maintaining access to any Developer Interfaces or related functionality.

2. Limited License

Subject to your compliance with this addendum, Vimeo grants you a limited, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable, worldwide license to use the Developer Interfaces solely to build, test, and operate your own website, software, integration, or service that interacts with our Services (each, an “Application”).

3. General Developer Obligations

All developers must comply with the following general conditions:

3.1. Compliance. You must comply with all applicable laws and regulations, our Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, and Developer Guidelines.

3.2. Transparency. You may not mislead users of your Application (each, an “End User”) regarding your relationship with us or the functionality of your Application.

3.3. Attribution. You may not state or imply that we endorse, sponsor, or certify your Application. Any use of our trademarks, service marks, or logos (collectively, “Vimeo Marks”) must comply with the Vimeo Brand Guidelines.

3.4. Player Integrity. You may not modify, obscure, or interfere with any element of our embeddable video player (the “Vimeo Player”), including its logo, playback controls, or sharing features, except where permitted by our Services or with our prior written consent. You may not display advertising before, during, or after video playback within the Vimeo Player without our written approval.

3.5. Fees. You may not charge End Users a fee for your Application unless we expressly authorize you to do so in writing.

3.6. Reverse Engineering. You may not reverse engineer, decompile, or otherwise attempt to derive the source code or underlying structure of any Developer Interface.

4. Data & Security Requirements

All developers must comply with the following data and security requirements:

4.1. Data Use. You may only request, store, and use content, data, or metadata made available by Vimeo through the Developer Interfaces (collectively, “Vimeo Content”) as necessary for your Application's legitimate operation and consistent with all applicable privacy and data-protection laws. You may only use Vimeo Content to power features of your Application. You must not use it for advertising, profiling, or data mining, or to build or enrich user datasets for any other product or service.

4.2. AI Training. You may not use Vimeo Content or any other data obtained through the Developer Interfaces to train, retrain, fine-tune, or otherwise improve any artificial-intelligence or machine-learning models, nor permit any third party to do so. This restriction does not apply to any content or data that you own or have all necessary rights to use for such purposes.

4.3. Access Credentials. We may issue you credentials, keys, tokens, or other authentication mechanisms (collectively, “Access Credentials”) to enable your Application to access or interact with the Developer Interfaces. You must keep all Access Credentials secure and confidential, use them only as permitted by us, and not share, sell, embed, or transfer them to any third party. We may modify, revoke, or reissue Access Credentials at any time. You must protect Access Credentials with the same level of care you use to protect your own confidential information, but no less than a reasonable degree of care, and may not include them in publicly available code repositories or client-side code.

4.4. Uploads. You may allow uploads to our Services only for account types or endpoints that we expressly permit in our documentation.

4.5. Rate Limits. You must comply with our rate limits and other technical restrictions. We may impose or adjust limits to protect its systems.

4.6. Privacy Policy. You must maintain and publicly post a privacy policy describing how you collect, use, and share information from End Users, including how you handle any personal data obtained via our Services. This requirement does not apply to internal-only or non-public Applications.

4.7. Security. You must implement appropriate technical and organizational security measures to protect all Vimeo Content and End User information. You must not introduce malware, viruses, or other harmful code through your Application. You must notify us immediately upon discovering any actual or suspected breach, vulnerability, or unauthorized access involving Vimeo Content or End User data.

4.8. Disconnect Requirement. If your Application allows End Users to connect their Vimeo account, you must also provide a simple and easily accessible way for them to disconnect their Vimeo account at any time.

4.9. Third-Party Services. If your Application enables or authorizes Vimeo to transmit data to, or receive data from, a third-party service that you control or select (for example, an analytics tool, storage provider, or Model Context Protocol client), you are solely responsible for that service's access to and use of Vimeo Content and End User data. Vimeo is not responsible for, and disclaims all liability arising from, any such third party's acts, omissions, or data-handling practices.

4.10. Labels and Notices. We may display, and may provide content owners options to display, notices identifying videos or other content as AI-generated, synthetic, or machine-assisted, as well as other classifications such as mature, advertising, or similar labels on our Services. These notices may not appear when Vimeo Content is viewed or accessed outside of Vimeo's websites or applications, and Vimeo makes no representation that these labels will be transmitted through the Developer Interfaces or Vimeo Player.

If we embed a non-perceptible provenance marker or invisible watermark in AI-generated or AI-altered content (a “Latent Disclosure”), you must not remove, obscure, alter, or otherwise impair the Latent Disclosure, nor permit users to do so. You shall configure your ingestion, transcode, export, and delivery paths to preserve Latent Disclosures to the fullest extent reasonably practicable.

4.11. Copyright Notices. Pursuant to Vimeo’s Copyright Policy, you must promptly forward to us any Digital Millennium Copyright Act notices you receive concerning Vimeo Content.

5. Advanced Access

If your Application accesses any non-public user information or content on our Services, including private or unlisted videos, account-level analytics, or data available only through authenticated or permissioned access, or if it modifies content on our Services, the following additional terms apply:

5.1. End User Credentials. You may not request, collect, or store End User usernames, passwords, or other login credentials (“End User Credentials”) except as expressly authorized by us or as necessary to use our approved authentication methods. You must never retain End User Credentials beyond the authentication process, nor share or disclose them to any third party.

5.2. Authentication. You may authenticate End Users only through our approved authentication methods (for example, OAuth) and in accordance with our documentation. You may not implement alternative sign-in flows, reuse access tokens across End Users, or otherwise attempt to bypass our authentication process.

5.3. User Consent. You must obtain each End User’s express, informed consent before accessing their Vimeo account data, taking action on their behalf, or modifying their content through your Application. You must also provide a clear and simple method for users to withdraw that consent at any time.

5.4. Credential Lifecycle. You must delete any temporary End User Credentials or access tokens once the relevant authorization session ends or when they are no longer needed for the permitted purpose. You may not retain, refresh, or extend tokens beyond their authorized duration.

6. Intellectual Property

As between Vimeo and you, (a) Vimeo owns the Developer Interfaces, the Vimeo Content, the Vimeo Marks, and the Vimeo Player; and (b) you own your Application. Except as expressly set forth herein, neither party transfers any right, title, or interest in or to its intellectual property. All rights not expressly granted by us are reserved. We may develop applications and services that are similar to your Application.

Subject to your compliance with this addendum, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, revocable license to use the “Vimeo” word mark for descriptive purposes in connection with your Application in accordance with the Vimeo Brand Guidelines. You may not use the Vimeo Marks in the branding, naming, promotion, or identification of your Application (such as referring to it as a “Vimeo application” or incorporating Vimeo Marks into its name or logo) without our prior written consent.

You grant us a limited, non-exclusive license to use your name, logo, and trademarks for the purpose of listing or featuring your public Application. You further grant us permission to link to your Application. The foregoing rights shall not be deemed obligations by Vimeo to promote your Application.

7. Service Availability and Changes

Vimeo may modify, suspend, or discontinue any Developer Interface, or any portion thereof, at any time. We will make reasonable efforts to provide notice of material changes that affect existing integrations, but you acknowledge that continued operation of your Application is at your own risk and discretion. Vimeo will have no liability to you or any third party for any modification, deterioration, suspension, or discontinuation of any Developer Interface.

8. Term and Termination

This addendum forms part of Vimeo’s Terms of Service and, together with those terms, constitutes the entire agreement between you and Vimeo governing your use of the Developer Interfaces (and any Application that uses them).

This addendum will remain in effect for as long as you use the Developer Interfaces or operate an Application that uses them. We may terminate or suspend this addendum, or limit, suspend, or revoke your access to any or all Developer Interfaces, at any time for any reason, with or without cause, and with or without notice.

Upon termination or suspension, you must immediately cease using the Developer Interfaces and delete any Vimeo Content in your possession.

The provisions relating to ownership of intellectual property, use of trademarks, indemnification, and compliance and enforcement will survive termination or expiration of this addendum.

9. Indemnification

You will indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Vimeo and its subsidiaries, parents, and affiliates, and their and our respective directors, officers, employees, and agents, from and against all third-party complaints, demands, claims, damages, losses, costs, liabilities, and expenses, including attorney’s fees, arising from or relating to: (a) your misuse of the Developer Interfaces; or (b) your Application or any End User’s use of it; or (c) your breach of this addendum.

10. Monitoring and Compliance

Vimeo may monitor, audit, or test your use of the Developer Interfaces, including through review of API activity and related Vimeo records, to verify compliance with this addendum.
