It had only been four months since graduating high school, but I was already an addict. As a matter of fact, I was using drugs heavily at the end of my senior year, and the first summer after high school is when my life really started to spiral out of control.
By the end of 2001 I was selling any drug I could get my hands on to make some money and feed my addiction (except heroine — that is always were I drew the line). Within a couple years I was the goto person for many substances, but primarily methamphetamine.
Through it all, my addiction, prison, and restoration, my family was always there for me. They knew the real me, not the person addicted to drugs and not the dealer feeding his addiction by providing for other addicts. That’s the person I know I needed to be again, for both myself and for them. Read the full story at https://heropress.com/essays/wordpress-is-my-ball-and-chain/
This is a photo of the dry bed of the Sabarmati River. For thousands of years the Sabarmati fed the city of Ahmedabad with fresh water and also had religious significance.
In 2018, the non-governmental organisation Paryavaran Suraksha Samiti released a report that the river was effectively dead, with no fresh water moving through it at all. Most of the river was simply dry, and the pools left were filled with sewage and pollution.
In 2002, water from the Narmada river was released into the Sabarmati River through the Sardar Sarovar dam. Today the river runs again through Amedabad, though it remains at risk.
