Getting Started with Overleaf

Overleaf:  New users with a rice.edu email will be directed to register via SSO. Existing users will be prompted to associate your account with SSO.

Security: Overleaf prioritizes document security with enterprise-grade features and is certified in compliance with ISO/IEC 27001:2013. Overleaf also has a FedRAMP® Li -SaaS compliant solution.

If you already have a personal free Overleaf account:

  1. Log in to your existing Overleaf Account

  2. From the homepage, got to Account, then select Account Settings from the drop down menu

  3. In Account Settings, under Emails and Affiliations, select Add another email account and add your Rice email account. Overleaf will recognize it as a Rice email and will say in order to add the email, your Overleaf and Rice University Accounts will need to be linked

  4. Select Link Accounts and Add Email

  5. After going through the necessary email verification steps, you should now be able to log in to your existing account using the log in through your institution option, which will ask for your Rice email and then will let you sign in using your NetID and password.

*Note: If you have already made a different account using your Rice email account, you will not be able to link your Rice email to your personal Overleaf Account. At the moment, Overleaf does not allow accounts to be merged, but you can always email support@overleaf.com for assistance. Additionally, in order for Overleaf to verify your institutional affiliation, you need to make sure that your directory information is public. This can be done through Esther, under Personal Information.
