I have a course with combined sections, and I'd like to be able to limit students to interact with their own section only. I know how to do this for one student at a time (explained here), but I have over 500 students. Does anyone know if there's a way to do this in bulk? Thanks, Alistair
We have courses with over 1,500 students enrolled and there are gradebook columns for assignments, quizzes, etc. The gradebook is VERY slow to load students on the screen. We're using filters on the gradebook that help but curious if anybody has other tricks to speed up the screen loads. The Course Settings for loading…
This instructor has several courses and needs to differentiate which section it is. It's not allowing her to distinguish this in the inbox. How can we fix this so it works? Can you change the settings in Canvas so I can change my course labels? This helps me organize course labels and at least know which section an Inbox…
What video platform are you using within Canvas? What are its strengths and weaknesses? Would you recommend it to another institution?
Having problems finding day and time for my online schedule
We know back-to-school is one of the busiest times of year for your team. You're welcoming students and instructors back, building out courses, and getting a new term off the ground, all while counting on the technology behind it to stay steady. Because this matters to you, it matters to us. So here's what we're doing to…
Tell us what to fix in the On-Demand Training Portal. If you've taken a course in the On-Demand Training Portal, we could use about 12 minutes of your time. We're rebuilding parts of the portal. We'd rather hear what didn't work than be told it was fine. We already know some of it. You've told us about links that go…
Here is a screenshot from an attempt to create a new Athena account. What does it mean when it says "supports open Canvas connections" or "Canvas Connection Open"? Can we close our Canvas instance to connections?
We have begun noticing issues with Assignments that utilise LTI tools. Some tools treat a submission deadline as including the entire minute specified, rather than up to that minute. eg. The LTI tool accepts a configured 11:59 as up to 11:59:59. Whereas Canvas treats the deadline as 11:59:00. Why does this matter? Well,…
So, I know we can't do it, but … is there any chance that a future release will make answer options moveable in the same manner that questions themselves are moveable? I found an earlier archived question about this HERE, but it was archived without much discussion, and the only suggestion to the OP was "use a different…
Editor's Note: This post was updated on July 22, 2026, with additional rollout guidance for institutions, including information about requesting to keep Notebook disabled after the August 15 default-on date. Notebook arrives in Canvas on July 18, 2026. This new feature gives learners a built-in way to take notes and…

We are an architecture, design, and engineering education, and so, Pages and Assignments are fairly elaborate, with texts, images, etc., carefully designed within the limitations of Canvas. I need to test newly designed Pages and Assignments before a course is published and well before Pages and Assignments become…

I have noticed that both I and my students do not have access to the Dyslexic Font in the Quizzes or New Quizzes, and was curious if there is any options in ensuring access to those tools moving forward, or if there is anything I can do as an instructor to adjust and ensure accessibility for my students?

Calling https://api.demo.badges.parchment.com/o/token yields a 503 error: <html>\r\n<head><title>503 Service Temporarily Unavailable</title></head>\r\n<body>\r\n<center><h1>503 Service Temporarily Unavailable</h1></center>\r\n</body>\r\n</html> I wasn't able to find any info whether this is being taken care of or not? Is having students read the textbook considered an assignment or an activity if there is no grade but a required date?
Because Catalog only supports a single payment for an entire purchase, I want the entire transaction to happen in Stripe so that our learners can pay over an arbitrary number of months to Stripe and each payment is reported to Canvas. My understanding is this would require special coding and API/webhooks. Has anyone done…
Hello, Our K12 district is using Qmlativ as our SIS and sync through API. We will be using cross listing for the first time this year, and we are concerned about what will happen when we introduce a Long Term Sub to a class. We understand this will create a new course for the long term sub. We have questions about the…
Hi, I was wondering if there was anything in the pipeline so on Canvas Catalog it could link to an entire sub-catalogue? We are using our Catalog instance to list Professional Development & Compliance courses to colleagues. For some courses, we have multiple listings (huge kudos to the multiple listings connecting to…
Hoping someone can explain for me. We're using pacing to avoid manually dating regular assignments each quarter, but the dates I see are based on when the course was instantiated, while students see dates based on when they were added to the course by [backend software I don't know anything about, presumably]. If I set…
Has anyone else had issues with an influx of duplicate users in Canvas? Ours is currently in the form of an email that already exists, becoming a new user - and not automatically merging with the user ID with the same email that also is linked to our SIS ID correctly as well. For example, user 1 is xyz@gmail.com without a…
On April 21 and 27, 2026, the student’s submission page appeared empty on my end. Upon checking again on May 5, 2026, a submission is now visible and is dated April 21 at 9:01 AM. Canvas note: Student Viewed Document: May 4 at 10:21 PM. How is this possible? There is only one submission, and it requires a PDF file upload.…
Hi, We are transitioning to ILP to sync course data from Colleague to Canvas. The connection itself is working successfully. However, I need some assistance with getting Blueprint courses applied to the course shells in Canvas. Currently, we use a .csv courses file to create the courses and associate them with the…
Canvas Portfolios provide a powerful platform for students to document their learning journey, reflect on their progress, and showcase competencies. However, in programs where multiple educators are involved in assessment—such as team teaching, moderation, or competency-based evaluation—there are important questions about…

Skills gaps are widening, and employees are asking for growth they can't always find in generic, one-size-fits-all training. For a lot of organizations, that leaves a hard question: keep buying training off the shelf, or build a workforce university of your own, one designed around the actual skills your employees need to…
