ABOUT THE COACHES


 

ImageDoran Triggs, Head Coach 

Doran began her dance journey at Amanda’s Dance Studio in Grand Prairie, TX, where she trained from 2010 to 2013. She continued her development as a member of the Grand Prairie High School Drill Team, serving as Co-Captain her junior year and Captain her senior year. During this time, she also contributed as a seasonal choreographer, further developing her leadership and creative direction.

Doran continued her dance career at Tarleton State University in Stephenville, TX, where she competed with the Texas Star Dance Team at the National Dance Alliance (NDA) College Nationals. She later transferred to Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, TX, where she continued competing at the collegiate level with the SFA dance teams.

Following college, Doran was selected as a member of the San Francisco 49ers Gold Rush Cheerleaders for the 2019–2020 NFL season. During her time with the organization, she performed at Super Bowl LIV and was one of ten dancers chosen to represent the team during Super Bowl Opening Week in Miami, Florida.

In addition to her dance background, Doran holds a Bachelor of Science in Cellular & Molecular Biology from Stephen F. Austin State University, with a minor in Combined Science. She has built a successful career in clinical research and currently serves as a Clinical Research Manager, Quality and Compliance, at the Stanford Center for Clinical Research, where she has contributed to multiple publications and professional conference presentations.

After serving as Assistant Coach, Doran was promoted to Head Coach of the Rice Owls Dance Team. In this role, she is committed to elevating the program through strong leadership, athlete development, and a focus on performance excellence, team culture, and representation of Rice Athletics.

 


 

ImageKamryn Spell, Assistant Coach

Kamryn received her foundational training at the Houston Ballet Academy from 2014 to 2019, where she completed multiple summer intensives and graduated from Houston Ballet II. She continued her professional development as a trainee with Texas Ballet Theater and further expanded her training internationally through the Paris Opera Ballet Summer Intensive.

Kamryn has performed on some of the most prestigious stages, including a featured role as Clara in the Radio City Christmas Spectacular alongside the world-renowned Radio City Rockettes.

She earned her degree in Dance from the University of St. Thomas, where she served as captain of the UST Dance Team for two years, demonstrating strong leadership and commitment to team development.

Kamryn currently serves as an instructor at the Houston Ballet Academy, teaching in both the lower school and adult programs. In addition, she is a member of the Clutch City Dancers for the Houston Rockets. As an NBA dancer, she has had the opportunity to travel and perform internationally, including appearances in Las Vegas and Brazil, while performing high-energy routines at every Houston Rockets home game.

Kamryn brings a dynamic blend of classical training, professional performance experience, and leadership to the Rice Owls Dance Team, where she is committed to developing well-rounded, high-performing student-athletes.
