If you join another instance, you wont be subject to our filter. It is meant to prevent abuse, we have issues with new accounts abusing other users, and this is our only way to prevent it.
I have been manually undeleting the messages as I get to them, but it is a human process, so it takes time.
It’s not capitalism.lemmy, it’s programming.dev, your home instance. You are a new account, and subject to our profanity filter. Which you have been hitting frequently.
Yeah, I know. I am working on the bot in my spare time though, so right now it’s pretty rough around the edges.
The bot auto-removes all image posts from new accounts. We have an issue with new accounts using images to send abuse.
It sucks, and I dont like that we have done this, but there is just 1 asshole who is ruining it for everyone.
We had a bunch of new accounts created that immediately hurled abuse at another user. It got us briefly defederated from a few instances. We are using the profanity filter to raise those kinds of post to our attention so we can deal with them rapidly.
Once we are sure the new account is behaving itself, the filter is turned off. We don’t care if you swear, as long as it’s in line with the code of conduct.
We do, the library I am using isn’t the best. If you know of a good rust lib for profanity checking, feel free to share.
But we are kinda okay with it being a bit over-eager. It only applies to new accounts, and I am actively reverting the messages if its an error. Its scaling okay for now.

They didn’t, our auto-mod did. We have an automod that detects profanity.
I have disabled it for you now.

Converted to mp4 and it works, but I wonder if the problem is file size? 11mb for the gif feels like it might be too big? Maybe try with a 9mb file, in case the limit is 10.
I converted it to mp4, and it shrunk to 1.9mb and uploaded, so I’m not sure what the exact problem is.
Seems unlikely, can you share the file some other way (dropbox or whatever) to me to try? It could also be instance specific?
Not sure why, but can you convert to MP4 before uploading? MP4 seems to work fine.
I’ve removed it on our end for you. No idea how it would work cross-software/instances, but would you like to moderate this community? Its currently unmoderated.
The admin team are aware, and are planning on upgrading to the latest lemmy version in the coming days.
