Hey folks, shopper from the US here.
This is my first time buying anything internationally, and I ran into a situation that I’m hoping someone here can clarify. I found a cutlery set and a bento box, separately, on Buyee. Both items let me add them to my cart without any issues.
However, with the cutlery set in particular, I noticed after adding it to my cart that the listing said “Prohibited Item.” Since it had already let me add the item to my cart, I assumed it was just some kind of weird listing bug. So I ended up purchasing both items, only to discover about 30 minutes later that Buyee apparently announced over a year ago that they would no longer ship cutlery/kitchenware to the US.
I’m not sure if that restriction has been resolved or changed since the August 27, 2025 announcement, so I wanted to ask:
Has anyone in the US successfully purchased and received silverware, cutlery, or similar kitchenware through Buyee within the past year? And, more importantly, if I did purchase an item that ultimately cannot be shipped to the US, what does Buyee actually do with it? Do they return it to the seller, dispose of it, hold it at the warehouse, or give you some other option?
The reason I’m especially worried is that this particular cutlery set is a very rare collectible from a show I like, so it isn't something I can easily replace. I've been stressing for the last 7 hours, I cannot get it off my mind. I’m just hoping someone here has dealt with this recently and can tell me what to expect.
