Thank you for reaching out and for providing those details.

We understand you’re experiencing an issue where the Midi and Mini Crossword are not appearing in the app, even after reinstalling it multiple times on version 6.21.0. We’re sorry for the inconvenience this has caused.

This issue has been reported to our Games team, and they are actively investigating the root cause. While they work on a permanent fix, we recommend continuing your gameplay through one of the following options:

  • The NYT Games website

  • The NYT News app

We appreciate your patience and will share updates as soon as more information becomes available. Please let us know if you have any other questions or need additional assistance in the meantime.

Definitely geo-fenced - I'm in Australia up until today I had the Mini but not the Midi. Now I don't have either.

Used a VPN to connect to the US, restarted the app and both Mini and Midi appear. Disconnect from the VPN, restart the app, and both gone.

Such a great track!

This has been reported and investigated by Firefox's webcompat team - https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2020904

I assume their webdevs opted to unsupport Firefox as a result of a change of behaviour resulting in a javascript error - the "Oops! That wasn't supposed to happen!" message.

The website removes an iframe, and then later tries to set a timeout on it. In Chrome/etc this is silently ignored, while Firefox throw an NS_ERROR_NOT_INITIALIZED error. See https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2021289 (this is fallout from a change made in Firefox 148 - https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=543435)

That's run by Mozilla for exactly these sorts of situations.

They have various options, including but not limited to reaching out to the website's owner or shipping a "browser intervention" for site-specific overrides.

This is 100% the correct thing to do.

[disclaimer: I work on Firefox]

Thanks for the heads-up, I'll raise this at work tomorrow. (I work on Firefox).

Australians

I guess things must be different in your corner of Australia; in Perth, at least, it's pretty well all double brick.

Ain't that what the probation period is there for?

Onboarding a new engineer into a project/team is a large investment; their impact is initially negative as they draw time from established team members to bring them up to speed.

This, coupled with the large amount of time it takes to go through the hiring process, means it's in the hiring manager's best interest to ensure they are bringing the most viable candidate onboard.

Yes, the probation period exists as a means for both sides to ensure they are happy with their decisions, but it's the last checkpoint not the only one.
