I'm thinking about activating the self-directed brokerage account option on my company 401k account and moving a chunk into some Bitcoin ETF. I don't have the option to rollover into an IRA while I'm still employed and I'm about 8-10 years from retirement.
Opinions? Advice?
If I create a lightning wallet and use it to send small amounts of BTC or send/receive zaps in a nostr app, how are taxes to be handled?
For example, in the Primal app, I've received some zaps into my primal wallet. If I send some of these to someone else at a later date, let's say after BTC jumps to 500K :-), am I responsible for taxes on the increased value? If so, do I need to keep track of each and every transaction?
I'm in the U.S.
I started using Primal and imported my nsec from an existing nostr account. I've already received some zaps from other users so my wallet is showing some sats. But when I try to buy some additional sats by clicking on the $ icon on the top right, it loads the pay/to-receive screen, but shows an error:
"Something went wrong. Please try again"

Any idea what's going wrong?
First of all, I'm very happy to hear that the Holy Spirit is working through the Word and the preaching you have been hearing to bring you to faith. Praise God!
You mentioned ELCA, but I would encourage you to explore the other synodical options that are locally available to you, particularly the LCMS (yes, I am biased), as there are some very important differences.
I'd also encourage you to move forward with baptism as soon as you are ready. And once you've chosen a church congregation, meet with the Pastor about learning more about the Lutheran confessions so that you can be confirmed and start to receive Holy Communion.
I know enough that bread symbolizes the body of Christ, but that is about it.
One of the things you learn, is that in the context of Holy Communion, the bread doesn't just symbolize, it IS the body of Christ.
