As a kiwi who lived in NL for 5 years, my wife and I are also homesick and are planning our way back to NZ. For sure people will say NZ is bad but really I feel its the same everywhere. NL is a great place and you can't go wrong staying there too.

My wife also finished a Phd in NL and I suggest you should finish that if you can as its an amazing opportunity and awesome that you can do that while getting paid a living wage.

Currently in the US as I've been transferred over for work but hoping to loop our way back in the near ish future.

My main suggestion for you is to plan and save up to prepare for the move as the more security (financial) you have during the move, the easier it will be.

Goodluck on your study and follow your heart.

Just to add to this, you can also change the LAN networks configured in the Preferences.xml file on the bare metal install. Once you change, you restart the plex server and you should be able to claim using the local IP address. I assume this is similar to the docker install but have no way to confirm atm.

I believe the main reason for this is that it tries to detect if you are doing a local or remote connection, which then enables the claim button. I assume by default it only uses the network attached as local, and in docker this is the docker internal network.

Not OP but I'm in chicago atm, moved here a year ago from EU. But costs here are really high. If you're a high earner you will feel it less since the systems seem to revolve around the rich getting more options and ways to help themselves.

I think most of pains here are felt by the lower socioeconomic people, as the gap between poor and rich is larger. I believe in NZ, that gap is smaller so more people are middle class which means a lot more people feel the impacts/pains.

Just my 2c.

I think what he means is that juniors will have a hard time securing a spot especially if you dont speak German. ( I am not in Germany btw, so just helping) Afaik, there are not a lot of junior roles being advertised in general.

But in the end if you are sure you can secure a role, then you should also be able to get multiple offers to figure out what is fair. Harsh truth is that with only 1 yoe, its always a tough sell unless you have something unique that makes you more than any other person competing for that spot in the company.

We have a house in NZ and moved to Amsterdam 5years ago. Few things to consider:

  1. Check your tax obligations, we still file tax in both countries as we rent our house in NZ. Not double taxed but have to submit everything to both countries, so extra effort in that area.

  2. Topping up is highly dependent on the interest and your mortgage repayments. Few years ago it was easy cause of low rates but now is much harder and we top up a significant amount.

  3. Dont forget account for the costs of turning it into a rental like management costs, insurance, maintenance, etc

Do you have the URL itself? Just so I can confirm. I can't seem to connect to mine even though i've configured the RTSP port and I can see it open doing a port scan on the camera.

Is it just rtsp://admin@<PASSWORD>@<CAMERA IP>:554/h264Preview_01_main

Edit: typo and missing port
