Most of the detractors are like the commenter above who claimed to work in software engineering but found “AI” no more useful than a search engine, despite not actually having used any of the modern tooling.

There has been a massive step function in capability since Dec 2025 and few people realize it. Anybody using free plans or lesser models hasn’t yet been exposed to the truly astonishing capability of modern agentic tool chains. This genie isn’t going to go back into the bottle.

The concerns about privacy, centralization, ecological and economic impact are real and need to be managed. All that said, anybody practicing software engineering, law, medicine, finance, marketing and many other fields in 2026 that is not yet using AI is like a contractor who refuses to use power tools.

I won’t opine on whether this shift is positive or negative for humanity, but it’s a one way door that we have already collectively stepped through. Buckle up and get with the program. Do not put your head in the sand and pretend like the world hasn’t already changed. Instead, wake up and help develop the private local AI, regulations and environmental protections that may help us navigate this transition with grace.
