the mason-dixon line is 30 miles north of the city...

I only did this on an Apple TV, and I haven't had one for years, so no idea if this still works but as of 3 or so years ago it was entirely possible to use pfsense or the like, mitm yourself, and decode the protobuf that has the direct links to the ads and just delete them. Obviously setting that up is a little involved but entirely possible

I read A ProPublica report a few years back to that effect. Kind of insane

Late to this obviously, but I think the frame after the Y-Junction reference is a reference to The Three Judges by Honore Daumier

I agree in general with the sentiment that in an age where audio and (much less so) video can be fabricated, we should be cautious, but I think there are several reasons that it's not really a concern in this specific case. For one, there ought to be police bodycam/cruiser footage to compare against.

In the case of the principal, the nature of the supposed recording (surreptitious, audio only) made it more believable, but in an era where AI videos often don't obey the laws of physics it's much harder to be skeptical of something that happens in public in front of at least a handful of identifiable, real people.

In any case, I was reacting more to the history of non-punishment we've seen for police misconduct. The fact that it's so rare to see any punishment at all that an appropriate punishment is newsworthy is what I was commenting on.

crazy that this is even notable/rare enough to be remarked upon. It should absolutely be the default where there is a video of you trying to run over someone
