Weekly GNU-like Mobile Linux Update (34/2026): Amazing Progress

A huge week for Fairphone 6 mainline kernel hardware enablement: first the main camera, then all three cameras, then audio — and VoLTE emergency calling has been tested end-to-end. Also: Phosh 0.57.0 is out, Sailfish OS gets a 5.2 Jolla Phone update, Tuba 0.11.0 ships UnifiedPush support, and someone is running Minecraft at a stable 25fps on a OnePlus 8T with postmarketOS.

Collected on Saturday, August 22th 2026, 21:09 UTC and finished (in multiple chunks) on Sunday, August 23rd. So happy Fairphone have dropped the ball with the Gen. 6 USB situation (no DP alt mode, 2.0 speeds and not undone that for the 6+)... otherwise I would have been financially irresponsible and ordered yet another phone I don't really need.

On the hardware side, Dawndrums has received the Divine D MainPCB Rev. 1.1 and is sharing early DawnOS test results, mainlining progress on other (used) devices and more!

Quick and dirty three-week catch-up: the Jolla Phone finally landed in backers' hands at the Day1 event in Helsinki, FuriOS 14.0.3 shipped face authentication and Vulkan with swipe typing on the way, Phosh 0.56.0 is out, postmarketOS gets Plasma 6.7 and bigger boot partitions, and more!

My son is already over two weeks old, as shared on the Fediverse. This is a hasty attempt to get back in the habit without loosing too much sleep.

postmarketOS v26.06 "Alpen Avocado" is out, and Commodore is back with a flip phone running Sailfish OS — at a price. Linux 7.1 released; Ubuntu Touch OTA 2.0 Beta adds Nothing Phone (1) and notch support; KDE Plasma 6.7 ships, with Plasma Mobile improvements; postmarketOS duranium images gain a Waydroid sysext and Bazaar for Flatpak installs, and more!

A Personal Note

This week's Weekly Update is a day late, because I spent Sunday evening at the hospital with my wife for a check-up. All is well — I'm not a father yet, but this may well be the last Weekly Update where that's still true ;-)

I hope to keep the updates going without major hiccups, but some streamlining is in order: I'm dropping the video collection script, as it pulls in too many irrelevant videos — everything from fishing videos (thanks to the "Sailfish" in "Sailfish OS") to all sorts of AI slop. To put a number on it: the raw file I started with for this update had 139 video links.

So if you find or create relevant video content that was published during the week but didn't make it into the Weekly Update, please add it (along with any other relevant content) to the pad :-) Also, linmob.net is open for relevant guest posts. Thanks in advance!
