Last week price action was dominated fears of intervention/actual intervention by the BOJ, investors realizing how useful AI is and how not-so-useful company services in the tech sector are and the rise in bond volatility that pushed global yields lower except JGBs and partially Australian 10 yr bond yields. but the rest?

Vix was early in the signaling of higher volatility and is comfortable at higher ranges now

US Equities are lower broadly and the Russell out-performance of the NASDAQ is still the theme although positioning is shifting in hopes of a revival of the dollar and tech stocks.

We can see equities selling alongside yields during this period

The sell America theme still exists albeit with lesser drag on equities. Sellers may still play with US equities as there is asymmetry to the downside plus weakness from sketchy labor reports due to downward revisions

The dollar is at a very important support level that has held since 2022

Another leg lower would reinforce dollar weakness and the dollar will start trading like the yen temporarily. But for this to happen we'll need more bad news. It is unlikely whatever we'll get or hear will be capable of driving the dollar significantly lower from here. Definitely not bearish dollar either. The skew is to the upside here.
More labor data this week so price likely to lean upwards in anticipation of report that abates fears of prolonged structural weakness in the labor market.

The CAD is structurally weak

Although we've seen outperformance in the equity market compared to the US

investors are rotating out of growth and into cyclicals in Canada

There's also increased preference for low volatility in Canadian equities

We expect the CAD to also gain strength from the influx of new data this week albeit underperforming the dollar.

Another currency we'll be paying attention to is the Norwegian krone

Emerging economies have been outperforming developed economies and the flow of econ data has been positive for emerging currencies due to the rise in commods (metals) and strong growth. We've had significant corrections in commodities while these currencies still remain elevated.

There has been significant chatter about “AI destroying billions in SaaS companies”. In the literal sense, billions can’t be destroyed in the stock market. The headline numbers used to incite this belief is the product of the price of a share and the number of shares of that company. Price is simply a representation of what market participants think something’s worth with respect to time. Repricing doesn’t equal destruction but a reevaluation of an assets worth.

The BOJ intervention on the 22nd of Jan looks futile as the yen has proceeded lower preintervention not only at the prospects of Sanae Takaichi’s victory in the elections. This just speeds up movement. Th direction is still the same

Takaichi’s victory or to be exact her policies also abate the uncertainty in Japanese markets generating more tail wind for the Nikkei, more bond issuance and ultimately more headwind for the yen.

Due to short positioning in the yen becoming crowded again, Japanese econ data will be closely watched to quickly detect changes that justifies reduction in expansionary fiscal policy. So far we haven't seen the changes and we believe it is unlikely we witness any form of substantial change in econ data to prompt a reduction in bond issuance. Her pledge to suspend the 8% consumption tax (sales tax) on food for two years following her landslide election win by cutting the consumption tax on food and beverages, which carries an estimated annual revenue loss of approximately ¥5 trillion ($31.9 billion) is to be enacted WITHOUT BOND ISSUANCE. Markets aren't buying the story neither are we.

Positioning in the dollar has revived from it's lows on the hopes of a dollar recovery.

Needless to say that hasn't worked out at all. The “Sell America” trade is still in play and as long as erratic fiscal polices are being made, we'll see money flow to more reliable pools. This of course doesn't mean significant sell of in ES. ES is rallying but by a lot less relative to other major indices. We've also seen significant rotation from tech to small caps

This theoretically should push the dollar up. But that isn't happening as the “sell America” trade can't be offset by a meagre rotation into small caps

Another market we've been observing is Canadian bond prices. There seem to be a at a standstill with less movement in higher durations

The only significant movement has been in the front end. All these have been happening while positioning shifts from negative to positive

The CAD index (Custom) is very close top the middle of it's range

The combination of all these factors increases the asymmetry to the downside. Market participants are oblivious to the possibility of a downside in the CAD as the BOC has concluded rate cuts and CAD underperforming other majors on average. This isn't bearish in of itself but makes a fall easier to occur.

If the FIRS becomes aggressive with enforcement/collections this month to prove a point (”aggressively auditing” 2025 books), it could spook foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) who are just dipping their toes back in. Uncertainty is worse than bad policy.

• The Naira Spread: If the parallel market gap hits 10%, round-tripping returns. That distorts the entire monetary transmission mechanism. The CBN must keep this gap closed.

The Opening Gambit (Trade Ideas)

1. The “Index Play”: Buy Guinness Nigeria at the open. The NGX 30 inclusion is a mandatory buying event for index trackers. The liquidity squeeze will drive the price up in the short term.

2. The “Pension Play”: Accumulate Wema Bank. Pension funds are slow-moving behemoths. They will start buying Wema over the next few weeks now that it is in the Pension Index. Front-run them.

3. The “Macro Hedge”: Short Seplat / Oando. With oil at $60 and a potential supply glut from Venezuela, the upstream oil sector faces margin compression. Seplat is already down 3.43% ; the trend is your friend.

4. The “Yield Hunter”: Watch the NT-Bill yields. If inflation is truly trending to single digits (Ayo Teriba’s thesis), current yields of ~19-20% are a steal. Lock in duration before the market realizes inflation is crashing.

5. The “Tax Haven” Play: Look for small-cap companies with turnover just under N100m that are listed (e.g., on the Growth Board). They are now tax-exempt. Their earnings per share (EPS) just got a massive boost purely from tax savings.

Final Word: The market is at an all-time high, but the foundation is shifting. The tax laws have changed the rules of the game. The US has changed the geopolitical map. Do not trade 2026 with a 2025 playbook. Be agile. Be ruthless.

We have had a tectonic shift in geopolitical factors in play, and also a trajectory change for the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela following the execution of Operation Absolute Resolve by the United States military forces, which led to the apprehension of President Nicolas Maduro and First Lady Cilia Flores of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela.

While President Nicola Maduro is in U.S custody, the current cabinet members still remain in play:

• Diosdado Cabello: The Minister of Interior, Justice & Peace, and he controls the internal police (PNB), intelligence (SEBIN) and the Colectivos (armed paramilitary gangs)

• Vladimir Padrion Lopez: The Minister of Defense, he controls the conventional firepower

• Delcy Rodriguez: The Executive Vice President & Minister of Oil

• Alex Saab: The Minister of Industry and architect of the food box (CLAP) social control system

• Gustavo Gonzalez Lopez: The Head of SEBIN(Intelligence), responsible for the surveillance and detention of political prisoners and also reports to Cabello and Maduro

• Yvan Gil: The Foreign Minister, primarily responsible for anti-US support from Russia, China and Iran

The rival party to the incumbent president are the Plataforma Unitaria Democratica (PUD):

• Marina Corina Machado: The De Facto leader of the party whom is disqualified from holding office by the regime but seen as the leader of the opposition street movement and commands the popular vote

• Edmundo Gonzales Urrutia: Recognized by the US and EU as the winner of the July 2024 election

Currently, the nation operates under a fractured sovereignty with a de facto U.S administrative authority aimed at securing energy assets and facilitating a transition and the preservation of administrative continuity led by the executive Vice President Delcy Rodriguez, who was sworn in by the Supreme Tribunal of Justice (TSJ)

We do not intend to delve into the political nuances, but to adequately frame an investment or trading view, we performed a mini country analysis to understand where the country is coming from, where it is now, what we think the U.S has interest in and how we can position to extract some alpha.

Country Profile and Historical Evolution

Venezuela as a country has a high beta to the commodity market. The modern Venezuelan state was born through geology due to the discovery of massive oil deposits in Maracaibo Basin, which altered the political economy, as oil rents were utilized to build a national army and infrastructure leading to the establishment of the Petro-State(a government independent of taxpayer consent because it is funded by external rents)

In 1958, Venezuela entered an era characterized by a democratic pact between the main political parties to share power and distribute oil rents, which delivered social mobility and modernization process, but deepened the country’s dependency on volatile oil markets. In the 1980s the collapse of oil prices exposed the structural weakness of the Petro-State model, leading to the Caracazo riots of 1989 and two coup attempts in 1992.

Following the riot, in 1998, the Bolivarian Revolution was enacted which sought o replace representative democracy with participatory mechanisms to enable citizens, employees, or stakeholders to actively engage in decision-making, planning, and governance, and subsequently, the higher oil prices sustained a massive expansion of state spending and expropriations as part of Hugo Chavez nationalism.

Demographics

Venezuela has a total population of 28.5m, with its ethnicity split among Spanish, Italian, Portugese, Arab, German, African and indigenous people. While there seems to be a Pyramid like demographic structure characterized with high birth rate, and a relatively low death rate 7.56 per 1,000 people based on 2023 data.

However, there has been a massive outbound migration, with over 6.9 million Venezuelans fleeing the country equivalent to ~24% of the total population consisting of the upper and middle class, followed by professionals and the working poor, resulting to a decline in human capital, and majority of migrants reside in Colombia, Peru, Brazil, Chile and Ecuador:

Venezuela is also ridden with high inequality due to the social hierarchy in place, epitomized by segmenting the economy into a small elite with access to foreign currency in Eastern Caracas and the vast majority earning in local currency or reliant on state bonuses, while also struggling with malnutrition and lack of basic services.

Geography

Venezuela occupies a position North of South America, bordering the Caribbean Sea and the North Atlantic Ocean, between Colombia and Guyana. Her situation along the ocean banks provides dominance over key maritime trade routes and proximity to the United States

It also shares a porous border with Colombia, which is known for being a hotspot for irregular armed groups and smuggling activity

Natural Resources

Venezuela possess the largest oil reserves in the world estimated at 303.2 billion barrels.

Venezuela possess a unique type of oil, called Heavy Oil, which is known to be viscous and requires:

• Specialized upgraders to convert it into a lighter, less viscous, and more valuable synthetic crude oil (SCO), which can then be processed by conventional refineries into consumer products like gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel.

• Dilution with Naphtha to reduce the viscosity of heavy crude oil

The extraction and processing of heavy oil requires infrastructure built out for that purpose, and mostly the likes of Chevron, ExonnMobil and Shell, amongst others.

Furthermore, Venezuela also possess a rich deposit of Gold, Diamonds, Coltan, Iron Ore and Bauxite.

Monetary and Currency Regime

The sovereign currency had ceased to function as a store of value or unit of accounts, driven by hyperinflation

and the currency experienced three redenomination to delete a total of 14 zeros from its currency, and virtually all transactions are being conducted in U.S dollars or Euros:

While the official reason for U.S activity is based on the execution of the narco-terrorism indictment against Nicolas Maduro and the dismantling of drug trafficking networks, we think the strategic rationale is rooted in Energy Security and Geopolitical Realignment. The U.S. dollar hovered near two month lows around 98.3 on Friday, booking its third consecutive weekly decline as markets digested a contentious Federal Reserve decision that highlighted deepening fractures within the central bank.

In a move widely anticipated by futures markets but fiercely debated inside the FOMC, the Fed lowered its benchmark interest rate by 25 basis points to a target range of 3.50%–3.75%. This marks the third consecutive reduction in a cycle that began earlier this year. However, the accompanying policy statement and economic projections signaled a “hawkish cut,” with officials paring back expectations to just one additional rate reduction in 2026.

While the decision to cut was carried by the majority, the dissenters stole the spotlight, revealing a committee at odds over the economy’s true trajectory.

Kansas City Fed President Jeffrey Schmid broke with the majority to vote for a hold. Citing inflation that remains too hot—with headline CPI sticky at 3%—Schmid argued that the current policy stance is not sufficiently restrictive to finish the job on price stability. His dissent underscores a growing skepticism among hawks that the long run neutral rate of interest (r star) may be significantly higher than the Fed’s traditional 2.5% estimate.

According to recent research by Jonathan Hartley (Stanford/Hoover Institution), policymakers may be facing a substantial divergence in how this neutral rate is estimated. While traditional structural models (like Holston Laubach Williams) suggest r star has fallen, survey based measures from market participants indicate it has actually risen significantly post COVID. If the market perceived r star is indeed higher potentially around 2.0% in real terms or higher as suggested by long run bond yields the current policy rate of 3.50%–3.75% may be far less restrictive than the dovish contingent believes. This divergence supports Schmid’s fear that the Fed is easing into an environment where capital is structurally more expensive, risking a reignition of inflation that is currently stalled at 3%. While a rate cut generally lowers hedging costs, the uncertainty surrounding the policy path highlighted by the split vote keeps volatility premiums elevated.

On the other side of the aisle, Chicago Fed President Austan Goolsbee also dissented, though for markedly different reasons. Despite being one of the committee’s most vocal doves projecting more aggressive easing in 2026 than his colleagues Goolsbee argued for a pause at this meeting. He contended that waiting for clearer inflation data would have been prudent before committing to another ease, a signal that even the doves are wary of reigniting price pressures prematurely.

Looking ahead to 2026, the committee’s composition will shift. Philadelphia Fed President Anna Paulson, who took the helm in July and joins the voting rotation next year, has already staked out a dovish position. In comments following the decision, Paulson emphasized that labor market fragility is now a “greater concern” than inflation, aligning herself with those prioritizing the Fed’s full employment mandate.

The Data Dilemma: Bad Jobs vs. Sticky Prices

The Fed’s dilemma is rooted in contradictory data. On one hand, inflation has stalled at 3%, refusing to glide the final mile to the 2% target. On the other, the labor market is flashing recessionary red lights.

Data released earlier this month revealed that private businesses cut 32,000 jobs in November 2025, a sharp reversal from the upwardly revised 47,000 gain in October and defying forecasts of a 10,000 increase. This represents the deepest monthly contraction in private payrolls since March 2023. The pain was acutely felt on Main Street, with small establishments shedding 120,000 jobs, a clear sign that higher financing costs are crushing the most interest sensitive sectors of the economy.

Market pricing reflects this uncertainty. Futures for the January 28, 2026 meeting now imply a 75.6% probability of a hold,(at the time of writing) with only a 24.4% chance of a further cut, suggesting traders believe the Fed will indeed pause to assess the damage.

Market Reaction: Rotation and Divergence

The shift toward a loosening regime should theoretically decrease these costs and steepen the curve, transferring relief to non financial firms and banks with asset liability mismatches. However, if inflation expectations remain unanchored or if the market fears a “stop and go” policy response—hedging costs could remain punishingly high, amplifying vulnerabilities in the financial sector. This dynamic helps explain the rotation into small caps (Russell 2000); smaller firms, often reliant on floating rate debt, are desperate for the reduced hedging costs that a steepening, loosening curve promises.

As we move through mid December 2025, the global economic narrative is diverging. While the Eurozone’s labor market recovery shows signs of fatigue, the United Kingdom is bracing for a pivotal week of data releases. Meanwhile, in Australia, robust consumer resilience is complicating the Reserve Bank of Australia’s (RBA) path toward monetary easing.

The AUD/NZD cross has rallied sharply as the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) signals further tightening, diverging from the Reserve Bank of New Zealand (RBNZ), which is expected to cut aggressively. The ASX’s weakness relative to global peers confirms that Australian markets are pricing in a painful higher for longer reality.

Canadian Dollar (CAD): Despite expectations that the Loonie would weaken ahead of Monday’s CPI report a classic hedge the currency has remained resilient. Canadian yields have ticked marginally higher following the (BoC) signal that its rate cutting cycle has concluded. If the BoC is indeed “one and done” while the Fed lingers in uncertainty, the CAD could see further upside against the greenback.

Eurozone: The Unemployment Decline Hits a Floor

The post pandemic recovery in the Euro Area labor market has been remarkable, but the momentum appears to be waning.

Technical analysis (Not Prediction) of the Euro Area Unemployment Rate (EUUR) suggests that the consistent downward trend observed since 2021 has stalled. As illustrated in the daily chart, the unemployment rate has found support near the 6.4% 6.5% level, with the trend flattening significantly as we close out 2025.

Despite the stall, it is important to contextualize this data. An unemployment rate hovering near historical lows indicates a labor market that remains tight.

United Kingdom: A Critical Week for Sterling

Volatility is expected for the British Pound (GBP) this week, as the economic calendar is packed with high impact releases. Traders are keeping a close eye on the Countdown to key indicators that will dictate the Bank of England’s next move.

Australia: Strong Spending Discourages RBA Easing

Down under, the narrative is starkly different. Hopes for RBA rate cuts are facing a reality check in the form of the resilient Australian consumer.

Recent data highlights a surge in Household Spending, which has accelerated to 5.60% Year over Year (YoY).

As shown in the Australia Household Spending YoY chart, consumption has been on a relentless upward trajectory throughout late 2025, defying the restrictive interest rate environment. This spending is supported by a robust labor market. Full time employment surged by 55.3k, and the unemployment rate remains low at 4.30%.

The Reserve Bank of Australia cannot easily pivot to easing when household demand is running this hot. With Inflation Expectations still elevated at 4.50% and spending accelerating, the RBA may be forced to keep the cash rate at 3.60% (or higher) for longer than the market anticipated. The recent data effectively prices out near term easing, as stimulating an economy that is already spending at >5% YoY would risk unanchoring inflation.

Japan: Fiscal Risks Outweigh Policy Shifts

Investors are selling off long-term Japanese bonds not because they think the Bank of Japan is about to aggressively raise rates, but because they are demanding extra compensation premium for the risks of holding Japanese debt over the next 10–30 years. The market is not repricing the central bank’s next move (which would move the front end), but rather repricing the economy’s long-term structural risks.

There also exists political uncertainty on the LDP’s leadership struggles and the rise of pro-spending factions like Sanae Takaichi’s circle. If the government is unstable, it is more likely to try to buy popularity through massive spending (fiscal stimulus). This means issuance of more government bonds.

If there is going to be a flood of new 30-year bonds to fund spending, I need a higher yield to buy them.

If inflation is “sticky” at 2-3% and the BOJ is too cautious to hike rates to stop it, the value of money locked in a bond for 20 years will erode faster.

This creates a scenario where the central bank cannot raise rates because the government debt is too high, forcing them to let inflation run hot to inflate the debt away.

In short, the steepening is a vote of no confidence in Japan’s long-term fiscal discipline, rather than a bet on immediate rate hikes.

Summary Outlook

EUR: Neutral. The labor market is safe but lacks the dynamism to drive the currency higher alone.

May - November 2025: Normalisation but not Complacency

Post the major turbulent event, the economic uncertainty index declined from a peak of 69.1 in April to 36.3 in May, after the market digest the tariffs impact and the focus shifted into pricing the medium-term impact of new tariff schedules and sanctions as opposed to the monthly announcements. That combination tells us that financial conditions remain easy for issuers and that the market is still willing to sell volatility and compress risk premia. However, when we translate this into transmission flows, the picture for equities is notably less friendly: the liquidity channel contributes roughly -15 points to equities, and risk appetite another -17 points, signalling that the change in liquidity and sentiment is now a headwind even if the level still looks subtle.

The policy block is where the constraint resides. With a Policy score of ~31, the dashboard continues to flag a restrictive stance: the Fed funds rate and 10-year Treasury yields are among the dominant primary drivers, while the yield curve remains deeply inverted in our leading-indicator set.

The inversion (captured by P_yield_curve_10y2y) acts as a warning that current policy is tight relative to future growth prospects, even as markets price in some eventual easing.

On a net basis, For FX, the impulse is more balanced, tight policy, positive carry and decent relative growth provide support to the USD. At the same time, commodity-FX and terms-of-trade channels are negative, and our growth-vs-USD regime correlation (around -0.62) tells us that any further improvement in global growth would likely weigh on the dollar. The result is a NEUTRAL bias on USD in the current regime, arguing more for relative, idiosyncratic trades than for a strong structural dollar view.

As geopolitical tensions takes dominance, the U.S are making a drastic shift in treating dependency on strategic imports (chips, rare earths and energy tech) as a security liability. Hyperscalers serve as the backbone of future global digital infrastructure in delivering massive amounts of computing power and storage capacity. They also continue to expand their data center footprint to meeth growth in computational demands, as Cloud computing evolve from being a convenience to a necessity for many businesses.

The major hyperscalers include: Cloud Operators: Amazon, Microsoft, Google Oracle and Meta

AI Data centers serves two purposes:

As Hyperscalers continue to invest massively in the data center build out, they also synonymously invest in renewable energy, energy efficient hardware and advanced cooling technologies such as liquid and immersion cooling due to increased energy consumption than the existing planned grid load within the U.S

The increase in data center require additional investment by US Utilities around $50 billion is estimated by Goldman Sachs to support data centers alone. Additionally, they anticipate increasing data center power consumption to spur demand for the equivalent of 3.3 billion cubic feet per day of new natural gas demand by 2030 (Goldman Sachs 2024). This high energy demand from data centers is causing utilities to delay retirement of coal-fired power plants

Neoclouds (Independent GPU as a Service)

Neoclouds originally emerged as a stopgap to address the GPU shortage, by providing GPU cloud services, and they are part of the driving demand.

There are majorly three AI Neoclouds providers in focus here:

Understanding Data Center Energy Use

Data centers require almost flat, 24/7 load, and the available source of power are either intermittent, expensive and slow to build, and a solution is required in the near term. The power source for data center are as follows:

The potential need for a 24/7 demand for energy from data centers that host cloud services and other critical operations that require access to stored data round the clock often conflicts with the limitations of intermittent sources of power generation such as wind and solar power, often paired with energy storage technologies such as batteries.

Additionally, Fossil fuel companies continue to explore opportunities to power data centers with fossil fuel plants, via Natural Gas Power Plants due to it being a cheaper source of energy. However, there are constraints in the supply of gas turbines that could limit the build-out of new natural gas plants. While data centers trail the path of innovation by proposing on-site and behind-the-meter natural gas plants to avoid delays associated with grid interconnection, a global shortage of gas turbine is a major constraint on the build-out of new gas infrastructure.

Natural Gas and Energy Transition

To meet the demand for power as the build out in data center expands, we highlighted the potential energy source that could be explored to meet the growing demand, out of which there is a strong case for Natural Gas amidst other sources of energy.

The demand for Natural Gas is primarily driven by LNG Export and now Power generation to service new data centers. The major consumers of Natural Gas are:

The exploration of Natural Gas stems from Upstream Production, where the production of Natural Gas takes place, then the Midstream, where raw gas is then processed and transported to the manufacturing and industrial companies, while a fraction is also allocated to LNG exporters, then to power generation and then lastly to provide gas for local utilities that power Residential & Commercial consumers which also includes the Data Centers.

Electricity Generation with Natural Gas

The electricity generation process takes place by burning gas, which creates heat that is utilized to power a turbine. This makes the turbine rotate which spins a generator to produce electricity.

Gas turbine engine are critical components to producing power. It consists of a rotating gas compressor, a combustor and a compressor-driving turbine. There are majorly three types of gas power stations:

• SCGT: This is also called the Simple Cycle Gas Turbines, and it is the go-to generation approach for data centers that aren’t fully connected to the grid.

• CCGT: This is also called the Combined Cycle Gas Turbines, they operate similarly to SCGT, except that the hot air that exists the engine is used to heat water, making steam that drives another turbine, to make even more energy, making gas turbines more efficient but more costly to build.

Referencing the table on the cost structure for energy source, while Nuclear is cheap and reliable, it takes a longer period to develop. The second best alternative is Natural Gas because it is cheap, reliable and can be had sooner than the alternatives.

Historically, electricity demand has stagnated on an average and there has been an under-estimation of the need for more electricity generation capacity, the realization in this gap is what creates an investment opportunity for the next couple of years:

As demand grows driven by increase in data center build out, there has been a major increase in Solar generation than in Gas, and what this implies is that Natural Gas and Solar Energy would be the source to fill in the gap until other sources of energy is made available:

We have seen a decline in the use of Coal as an energy source, as the world makes a pivot to clean energy source, hence the need for an increase in electricity capacity from cleaner energy source, and in the past few years, Solar and Wind has taken the lead in producing more energy than coal altogether.

As US data center build out continue to expand, the pragmatic approach is to prioritize building gas generation now, primarily because smaller natural gas power plants can be deployed within 4 months and larger plants can be built in 2 years. For production to take place, the turbine manufacturers also require commitments from the hyperscalers, then we can layer renewables as the system expands, moreso when Nuclear power plants are made available we can expand into them:

The Supply and Value Chain for Natural Gas Business

The supply chain majorly involves the following:

• Processing Plant: These are plants that clean natural gas by separating impurities and the various hydrocarbons and fluids from pure natural gas, producing what is known as ‘pipeline quality’ dry natural gas, also known as methane. A fully operational processing plant delivers pipeline quality dry natural gas that can be used as fuel by residential, commercial, and industrial consumers.

• Pipeline: The US natural gas pipeline network is a highly integrated transmission and distribution grid that can transport natural gas to and from nearly any location in the contiguous United States. Pipelines can be characterized as interstate or intrastate. Interstate pipelines are long-distance, high-capacity pipelines that transport natural gas throughout the nation. Intrastate pipelines link natural gas producers to local markets as well as the interstate pipeline system.

• Regasification: Regasification is the process of transforming liquefied natural gas (LNG) into a gaseous state through vaporization, preparing it for use. This process occurs at regasification plants, where the temperature of LNG is increased, typically through seawater vaporizers, transforming it into gas.

• Storage: Natural gas is stored in three principal types of large underground storage systems: depleted natural gas reservoirs, aquifers, and salt caverns. More than 80% of natural gas storage capability consists of depleted reservoirs, which are relatively easy to convert to storage facilities after use and are typically located near consumption centers and existing pipeline systems. Natural gas can also be stored as liquefied natural gas (LNG), which reduces its volume to 1/600th of the volume of natural gas, making it more efficient and practical to store and transport.

• Hubs: Natural gas hubs are locations where natural gas is priced and traded throughout the country. These ‘market hubs’ are located at the intersection of major pipeline systems. The principal hub within the United States is the Henry Hub in Louisiana.

• Fractionator: The fractionation process is the breaking down of natural gas liquids (NGLs) into their base components in order to be useful, and occurs at a fractionator facility. Common base components of NGLs include ethane, propane and butane. Fractionation occurs in stages, separating each base component from the stream of mixed NGLs, one-by-one.

• Liquefaction: Liquefaction is the physical conversion of a gas into a liquid state. Liquefaction occurs at normal atmospheric pressure by super-cooling the natural gas to -260°F, creating liquefied natural gas (LNG). Prior to liquefaction, certain unwanted components, such as dust, acid gases, helium, water, and heavy hydrocarbons, are removed as they can cause difficulty downstream.

• Liquified Natural Gas Shipping: Liquefied natural gas (LNG) shipping provides a low-cost, safe, and environmentally responsible method to move large volumes of product long distances. LNG is transported in specially-built tanks on double-hulled ships. LNG carriers are among the safest in the shipping industry, having made more than 100,000 voyages without major incident.

The Supply Chain for Nuclear Energy

The Nuclear energy cycle starts from the Mining & Milling stage which involves the identification and extraction of uranium ore from the earth which is processed into uranium concentrate called Yellowcake.

The second stage is the Conversion stage where Yellowcake is converted into Uranium Hexafluoride Gas, then it is enriched to increase the concentration of the isotope in uranium hexafluoride gas which is necessary for powering most reactors. Then the fuel fabrication process which converts enriched uranium hexafluoride into ceramic fuel pellet that are placed into metal rods and assembled into fuel assemblies tailored for specific reactor designs.

The Power Plant stage involves the building and running of the nuclear power plants, which involves Reactor Construction & Components such as reactor pressure vessels, turbines, pumps and other safety systems, including operations and maintenance.

The processed fuel is stored in a Fuel storage and the waste goes through the disposal process for radioactive waste.
