    Hi,

We moved our multisite to php 8.3 from 7.4 a couple of months and we have just tried to create a new site on the network (this was working fine in 7.4). We have new sites created as sub-doms with wildcard SSL. The new site seems to create ok, but when trying to visit site or dashboard, we get two notices in French (see below).

I have disabled all plugins, and running 2024 theme.

Has anyone come across this before or have any idea why these messages are being created in French!

  • Hi there,

After creating a new sub-site, WordPress may not automatically flush its rewrite rules, especially under newer PHP versions like 8.3 where core behavior can slightly shift. To manually trigger a flush, you can log into the sub-site’s dashboard, go to Settings > Permalinks, and click ‘Save Changes’ without modifying anything. This forces WordPress to regenerate its .htaccess or rewrite rules array, which often resolves 404 errors on new subdomains.

Thanks for this. I unfortunately can’t login to the dashboard to try this, I am getting the strange French login page.

What other language should it be?

The layout of the login from your screenshot is also not a standard login for the WordPress backend. Do you see this when you call up /wp-login.php?

It is an English language site. /wp-admin or wp-login.php brings up the ‘Page non Trouvee’ message. The French login page is displayed when I go to the site home page.

I have no idea why it is displaying in French. I am simply creating the site as usual, and then when the site is ready I am clicking ‘dashboard’ or ‘visit site’ which brings up the two French error messages.

Sounds like there is no WordPress under the domain. Are you sure you are using the right domain? If so, have a look via FTP to see what files are stored there. Your hoster’s support can provide you with access via FTP.
