“…Under low oxygen conditions, for example, P is preferentially regenerated from marine sediments, (e.g., Ingall & Jahnke, 1994). This could lead to a positive feedback loop where more P is brought to the ocean surface enhancing primary production and organic matter export, and, in turn, enhancing organic matter transport to and remineralization at depth, further depleting bottom water oxygen through consumption of oxygen during remineralization (e.g., Kemena et al., 2019; Niemeyer et al., 2016; Palastanga et al., 2011; Van Cappellen & Ingall, 1994; Wallmann, 2010; Watson, 2016). Release of additional P from sediments could have a strong impact on δ 13 C (see e.g., Tschumi et al., 2011, for a step‐increase in the ocean's P inventory).…”

Exaggerated anticipatory anxiety is common in social anxiety disorder (SAD). Neuroimaging studies have revealed altered neural activity in response to social stimuli in SAD, but fewer studies have examined neural activity during anticipation of feared social stimuli in SAD. The current study examined the time course and magnitude of activity in threat processing brain regions during speech anticipation in socially anxious individuals and healthy controls (HC). Method Participants (SAD n = 58; HC n = 16) underwent functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) during which they completed a 90s control anticipation task and 90s speech anticipation task.

“…This de-cline is partially countered when greater ecological complexity and flexible stoichiometry is introduced as well, with a shift to smaller plankton classes in response to oligotrophication leading to a 21st century ocean carbon sink reduction of ∼ 5.9 PgC. Other processes that are not resolved in this configuration of ecoGEnIE could also substantially affect the biological pump, such as ballasting, calcifier-silicifier tradeoffs, nitrogen cycle and stoichiometry-acidification feedbacks (Buchanan et al, 2019;Dutkiewicz et al, 2015;Landolfi et al, 2017;Riebesell et al, 2007;Somes et al, 2016;Tagliabue et al, 2011), deep chlorophyll maxima, and (on longer timescales) redox-dependent feedbacks (Niemeyer et al, 2017;Watson, 2016). Limited physical resolution can have significant impacts on biogeochemistry (Sinha et al, 2010), also limiting our results.…”

“…The oxygen content of the ocean constrains productivity, biodiversity, and biogeochemical cycles. Major extinction events in Earth's history have been associated with warm climates and oxygen-deficient oceans (7), and under current trajectories, anthropogenic activities could drive the ocean toward widespread oxygen deficiency within the next thousand years (8). In this Review, we refer to "coastal waters" as systems that are strongly influenced by their watershed, and the "open ocean" as waters in which such influences are secondary.…”
