Emily Murray just won the 2026 Shift Woman of Innovation Scholarship, presented with Island Women in Science & Technology (iWIST) and Redbrick, honoring women in STEM who lead with inclusivity, creativity, and innovation. Emily moved to Victoria on her own to study Software Engineering at the University of Victoria, not knowing anyone. So she built her own people, co-founding Women in Engineering, Science & Technology and reviving Women in Engineering & Computer Science. She's also doing research under Dr. Daniela Damian on why women leave engineering and computer science, and what it would take to get them to stay. Emily's already doing the work of making this field more welcoming for whoever comes next. We just got to hand her a little momentum. This is exactly the kind of leadership we love getting to support. #womeninstem #shiftbrowser

📚 Calling all students and educators: you can get a full year of Shift Advanced for free. We don't mean to burst your summer bubble, but back-to-school season is creeping up on us. The good news is Shift can help you get ready for it: separate your school, work, and personal browsing into Spaces, add the apps and tools you actually use to each one, and let Shift AI handle the busywork. Jumping back into wearing your multiple hats doesn't have to be that chaotic. We're also giving away an Apple bundle to sweeten the deal. Offer ends September 30. Claim your offer here: https://lnkd.in/gYh9-8ua. #backtoschool2026 #shiftbrowser #studentplan

You asked and you shall receive: tab groups. We built Spaces to keep your tasks organized, and tab groups take that up a notch. Bundle related tabs together, color-code them, and collapse them out of the way when they're not needed, all inside a Space. Right-click any tab to get started. #shiftbrowser #tabgroups

Tuesday was the Island Women in Science & Technology (iWIST) Geeky Girl Patio Party and not only was it a great time catching up with lovely humans but also Emily Murray won the Shift Browser Woman of Innovation Scholarship which recognizes STEM students who bring empathy, innovation and inclusivity to software development! So awesome to see her recognized for the incredible work she does as a student at UVic. Congrats to the other awards winners as well. Women uplifting women is a great vibe 🥰 If you missed it this year, put it on your radar for next year! Great venue, fabulous draw prizes (both Bryanne Kitagawa and Ray Brougham won, which seems suspicious 👀🤣), delicious eats, amazing mocktails and such fun company. Nice to see Maryam Hosseinzadeh, Maryam Ahang, Jane Desrochers and I’m sure I’m forgetting folks! Great job organizing Robyn Quinn and company🎉🎉🏖️🍹

Plastic pollution in food supply chains begins long before products reach grocery-store shelves. PhyCo Technologies is developing a seaweed-based alternative to conventional agricultural plastics—and its work has now received a $25,000 boost through Shift Browser’s 2026 Impact Grant. Founded by marine biologist Ranah Chavoshi and biotechnologist Stacey Goldberg, PhD, PhyCo uses enzyme technology and green chemistry to transform seaweed into a petroleum-free material designed to biodegrade safely in soil. The company is initially targeting plastic mulch films widely used on farms. The grant will help move the technology beyond the laboratory and closer to the farmers and industries that need practical alternatives. With a production-scale pilot underway in Portugal and a dedicated kelp-growing partnership in Nova Scotia, PhyCo is building an encouraging bridge between marine biotechnology and sustainable agriculture. #CleanTech #BlueEconomy #Biotechnology #SustainableAgriculture #PlasticAlternatives #CanadianInnovation https://lnkd.in/gpDt6t6Q

Climate action starts with measurement, but it only matters if it leads to change. In our most recent GHG inventory, completed for 2024, Redbrick’s portfolio reported 2,804 tCO₂e across Scope 1, 2, and 3. That meant looking beyond our offices to understand the impact of business travel, digital tools, commuting, and how we operate day to day. From there, we took action: 👉 Funded verified carbon offsets (including protecting forests that naturally store carbon) 👉 Invested in climate literacy across our teams 👉 Introduced initiatives that make lower-impact choices easier in everyday work The process also showed us where our data was incomplete and what we need to track more closely moving forward. This is not the finish line. It is a clearer baseline—and a commitment to keep improving from it.
